So in your opinion, does newbies have to try some games first since they are newbies or do they simply play whatever they want? If you agree on the first one, what do you think is the best game to start with?

Your best bet is to try them all...in for-fun mode.
Get a feel for what you like, how they play and go from there.

Totally agree, I always try new games in fun mode first now because then you realise how crap some of them actually are without loosing all your money first

I agree, fun mode is the best way

I have a few suggestions for USA newbies on one of my sites, based on what games I personally like:

Rival Gaming:
Video Slots: Best of Luck, Fantasy Fortune, Pigskin Payout, Cleopatra's Coins.
Video Slots (50-line): Astral Luck, Fast Lane, Lion's Roar, Tycoon Towers.
iSlots: Baby Boomer's Cash Cruise, Fixer Upper, A Switch in Time, Spy Game.
iSlots with True Skill features: Hole in Won, The Back Nine, Cosmic Quest.

RTG: Aztec's Treasure, Fruit Frenzy, Ghost Ship, Hairway to Heaven, Lock Ness Loot, Paydirt, Rain Dance, The Nice List (NEW), Triple Twister.

NuWorks: Babushka, Catch of the Day, Red Raiding Hood, Silk Caravan.

A lot of casinos with these games will also give you a free-chip to try them (especially Rival casinos) - so you can "try for free - win for real" if you get a lucky string of wins ;)

It depends with the newbie. For example, am a newbie in casino games. I tried online casinos because I like roulette and I stick to it most of the time. But if you didn't know which game to play and just want to have fun, then I think you should start with the first one you find and if you don't feel it try the next one.

If you are a newbie to slots first of all make sure you understand variance.

High variance = less frequent wins at larger amounts.
Low variance = more frequent wins at smaller amounts.

The former is more thrilling but usually far less playtime. The latter provides more play time.

Once you have decided your preferred variance then research the games :)

If you are in New York, you should take a drive over to NJ and join some of the online casinos hosted there: :D

Please check with their support beforehand, but I am 99% sure that you only need to be "in" the State, not a resident of. If you do so, you will have a full range of casino software to deal with NetEnt, IGT, WMS, NYX and more.

Like the peeps say - give the "Play for Fun" mode a go first. Check out the slots forum to get an idea what you might want to play:

If you are into VP - well, you're SOL. Microgaming has the best VP out there and they are not licensed in NJ. Bummer.
