Bingo is originally derived from a game called "Beano", but can be traced even further back to an Italian lottery game called "Lo Giuoco del Lotto D'Italia".  It is by accident that it got the name "Bingo".

During one of his travels,  Edwin S. Lowe (a toy salesman) stumbled upon this game and kept it's name as Bingo after hearing a tongue-tied player accidentally yelled out Bingo instead of Beano.
