Progressives are pooled together from all players across the network, so once hit, they just pay it out, no loss to the casino whatsoever. I'm relieved they don't, I think we all remember the Playtech horror show. Still doesn't make the situation here any better obviously.
It's more like a case of the game provider won't allow it (except for Playtech of course) ) so the casino HAVE to exclude progressives from the term. However, it could have unintended consequences in that the ONLY way a player can win big and be sure to keep it is to play a progressive and aim for the jackpot, and if their balance ever goes above the 6x deposit ceiling, just keep hammering away at the progressive till they can withdraw and keep the lot.
This could be a problem for the casino because their contribution to the network pool is based on turnover, not the losses, So if a player manages to make the WR on a bonus, the casino have probably lost a great deal more in network contributions. Normally, players tend to avoid progressives when trying to make WR as the base game RTP is lower due to the charge made per spin for the jackpot, hence less chance of making the WR, but also no risk of having non progressive wins confiscated when they get lucky. By imposing this 6x limit, playing a progressive becomes a far more attractive option for players, and if a significant number switch their play so as to avoid falling into the 6x trap, the casino will no longer be able to absorb the pool payments.
The fact that a player has now had this term used on them, and been told that it's actually "always imposed", this has moved from a term that most players don't have to worry about as "normal" players will not be targeted, to a case where ALL players will have this imposed on any large win.
