WORD FROM THE MEISTER |
THE ROLE OF THE CASINO: PLAYER SECURITY
It's one of the best threads in a long time in Casinomeister's forum. It begins with a disgruntled player who suspects that some prominent and well respected (and unrelated) casinos have been selling his personal information - specifically his email addresses. He uses a unique one at each casino (good idea). When he starts getting spammed from evil spammers using this address, he suspects the casinos have had a breach in security or a lapse of judgement by providing these spammers his email address.
I saw this as an opportunity for the I-Gaming representatives to inform players what was being done on their end to ensure that players' private info remains private. If you have a few minutes, please check out the thread here
Some excerpts:
Betfred:
As with any reputable casino and sportsbook, the players’ security is paramount. Here at Betfred access to the database is strictly limited to management. The support team do have access to personal details in order to assist players effectively but they are also monitored by the shift supervisor and would be unable to make any copy of said information without raising suspicion.
Banking details are kept on a separate database and even I as part of the casino management team would not be able to access such information without an extremely valid reason and then not without the most senior level approval.
Pat from 32Red:
We do not store credit card numbers or the 3 digit security code that is contained on the reverse of the card. We have the ability to access full card numbers and this access is strictly controlled and limited to senior members of staff. Those employees, who do have access, have been verified through a number of means which do include background checks with the police. The majority of our employees are only able to view the last four digits of a card number, with this being necessary to being able to perform certain financial transactions. The back office system that we use does not allow employees to see multiple instances of accounts, does not allow employees to export information into other files and prevents details from being printed. We run regular audits so as to ensure we know who is accessing what data and for what purpose.
BWin:
as a sportsbook and gaming operator licensed in Gibraltar, bwin is not only limited to it's own restrictive policies, but also to regulatory rules. we assure the safety of customers data by splitting data into different subsystems, restricting access to the specific subsystems to authorized people only and by tracking and reviewing all accesses and changes constantly. it is in our own interest NOT to share customer data with anybody outside bwin at all - and within the company only the absolute necessary amount of personal data is shared among people who need it for their daily work (e.g. customer service) and these people and their system accesses are logged and reviewed constantly.
And many more highly informative responses.
Another thing - passwords. No casino representative should have access to your password. They should only be able to reset it or give you a new one. If you want to see if they store it in the open, ask for it and see what they say.
Anyway - everyone should read this thread.

| HEADS UP IN THE FORUM FOR AOL USERS!! |
Tomorrow is the deadline to switch out your AOL email address to something else. Like I have announced several times, due to the spam complaints from AOL members, I'm purging the system. IF YOU HAVE AN AOL EMAIL ADDRESS YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DEACTIVATED UNTIL THIS IS CHANGED!
Sorry, about that but AOL is pretty much a rogue outfit. Members who place Casinomeister email notifications into their trash or spam boxes cause these to be reported to our server.
So please, if you still have an AOL account listed as your primary email address in the forum switch it out with a Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, or whatever email account. There is an active thread about the reasons behind this here.

YeR FReND, BiLLy
Dear Billy,
Nice spelling. You're on your way to being a career lawn care specialist.
How 'bout I send you a book so you can learn to read and write? I'm giving
your older brother the space ranger, at least HE can spell!
Santa
Dear Santa,
I've written you for three years now asking for a fire truck.
Please, I really really want a fire truck this year!
Love, Joey
Dear Joey,
Let me make it up to you. While you sleep, I'm gonna torch your house.
You'll have more fire trucks than you'll know what to do with.
Santa
Dear Santa,
I left milk and cookies for you under the tree, and I left carrots for
your reindeer outside the backdoor.
Love, Susan
Dear Susan,
Milk gives me the craps and carrots make the deer fart in my face. You
want to be a kiss-ass? Leave me a glass of Chivas Regal and some
caviar.
Santa
Dear Santa,
What do you do the other 364 days of the year? Are you making toys?
Your friend, Thomas
Dear Thomas,
All toys get made in China. I have a condo in Vegas,
where I spend most my time squeezing cocktail waitresses asses,
and losing all my cash at the craps table. Hey, YOU wanted to know!
Santa
Dear Santa,
Do you see us when we're sleeping, do you really know when we're
awake, like in the song?
Love, Jessica
Dear Jessica,
You are that gullible? Good luck in whatever you do, I'm skipping your
house...
Santa
Dear Santa,
I really really want a puppy this year. Please please please PLEASE.
Timmy
Timmy,
That whiny begging stuff may work with your folks, but that crap don't
work up here. You're getting a sweater!
Santa

iMEGA Objects to Proposed UIGEA Regulations |
|
Calls for Bipartisan Effort to Ensure ‘Digital Civil Rights”
(Washington, DC – December 13, 2007) – The Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association (iMEGA) announced today that it has filed its objections with the Department of Treasury over the agency’s proposed regulations regarding the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA). The new law, attached in the waning minutes of the 109th Congress to the unrelated Safe Ports Act with very little input from Members of Congress, is a misguided and potential harmful attempt to regulate Internet content.
iMEGA believes UIGEA and its proposed regulations establish a dangerous precedent for denying Americans’ First Amendment rights; that it will stifle online innovation and commerce; that it will inadequately protect children by eliminating the established safeguards offered by banks and credit card companies; and that it will have a chilling effect on the privacy rights of Internet users. iMEGA has made asserting and safeguarding Americans’ civil liberties in the online world part of their core mission.
“These proposed regulations will limit Americans’ freedom to use the Internet as they see fit in the privacy of their own homes,” said Edward Leyden, President, iMEGA. “While UIGEA is intended to protect minors and problem gamblers, the law ironically makes these groups more vulnerable by targeting US banks and credit card companies, whose identity verification, fraud prevention and credit profiling systems protect online consumers every day.”
“How does this make children and problem gamblers safer?” Leyden asked. “The fact is, it does not, and is certainly not worth the trade-off in our First Amendment rights the law demands. This is a dangerous precedent that must be corrected to preserve our digital civil rights.”
iMEGA noted in its filing that it was alarmed by the agency’s refusal to define exactly what an “unlawful gambling transaction” is, and was equally alarmed that the required determination would be delegated on an ad hoc basis to the entity or person having a “customer relationship” with an Internet gaming concern.
In addition, the regulations would, if implemented, exert a chilling effect on Internet innovation by imposing unprecedented burdens on the financial system, and risk stifling the growth of electronic commerce.
“The Internet is indispensable to our economy and our freedom,” said Leyden. “We implore the Congress to join in a bipartisan effort to preserve Americans “Digital Civil Rights” and to enact legislation that will guaranty these rights and prevent future abuse.”
About iMEGA – The Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association (iMEGA), a 501(c) 6 trade association, was founded in 2007 with the goal of working constructively and cooperatively with government at all levels, and other concerned citizens and corporations, to continue the remarkable growth of the Internet, and to promote innovation, openness and freedom as the path to even greater benefit of this medium for all.
