| WORD FROM THE MEISTER | ||
| FIGHTING H.R. 4777, THE INTERNET GAMBLING PROHIBITION ACT | ||
|
It doesn't matter what role you play in this industry: player, affiliate, casino manager, software provider. This bill - if passed - will affect us all. Even though you may reside outside the US (like me), this could have grave consequences for you as well. Many large casino groups rely on the US player, and a ban on online gaming from the US would mean many of these companies would fold, many people would lose their jobs, some of your favorite sites (not this one - have no fear) would dry up and whither away. In short, everything would suck. Why? Because a bunch of Bible thumpers feel that you are not able to do the due diligence it takes to protect you or your family from online gambling. These politicians want to ban online gambling in the States - where all but one state (Hawaii) has one or more forms of legalized, State controlled gambling. Last December's edition of IGWB Magazine (International Gambling and Wagering Business) gave a breakdown of what is allowed in the US by state: Charitable Bingo - 47 states Charitable Games - 40 states Card Rooms - 13 states Casinos and Gaming - 15 states Indian Casinos - 24 states Sports Betting - 4 states This doesn't include lotteries which are allowed in 41 states By the way, for parimutuel wagering - telephone wagering is allowed in CA, Conn, Idaho, KY, LA, NV, NH, NJ, NY, ND, OR, Penn.,VA and WY. But what's up with the Internet? Some misguided and ill-informed politicians want to ban online gambling. Why? Probably because they aren't imaginative enough to figure out how to regulate and tax it. It's just easier to ban it. Well, it's time that Americans get busy and protect what they cherish the most - their freedom. Here are some useful links to help you get started: Here is the bill, so you can read what it says and try to understand it: h4777ih.txt.pdf The bill has been passed on to the Judiciary Committee for review http://clerk.house.gov/committee/index.html?comcode=HJU00 Since this is one of the most important stages of the passage of a bill - it's being debated - you should contact these members of Congress. On the right is a link "Write Your Representative" which is pretty easy to do. Here is a link to monitor the Roll Call Votes on the bill http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2006/index.asp Then there is an article at Wall Street Journal Web-Gambling Opponents Restore Old Fight Which also contains a poll that shows the readers are about 80% against any banning bill being passed: Reader's Poll And then there is a link from "Poker Players Alliance" and the text is primarily poker focused, but you can edit this at will: fill out the address, choose "email" or "snail mail" and send it - it automatically goes to your rep. Pretty nifty. http://capwiz.com/pokerplayersalliance/issues/alert/?alertid=8522976 Finally, there is a thread in our forum that is currently bringing together information on this situation: http://www.casinomeister.com/forums/online-casinos/11442-fighting-h-r-4777-internet-gambling-prohibition-act.html So there you have it. I've given you just about everything you need to get started and do your civic duty. So what are you waiting for? Get busy - it'll probably take about 10 minutes of your time. |

| SILENCE FROM THE KAHNAWAKE GAMING COMMISSION | ||
| Am I being stonewalled by the KGC? I've sent several emails (very polite ones mind you) to the administrator at the KGC asking them how they were planning to address the Golden Palace streaking incident at the Winter Olympics. Either the Gaming Commission is on Winter break, or they just don't feel my emails are important enough to get back to. Well, I'll keep trying. and I'll let you know next week if they bother to answer.

A man was speeding down the highway, feeling secure in a
gaggle of cars all traveling at the same speed. However, as
they passed a speed trap, he got nailed with an infrared speed
detector and was pulled over. The officer handed him the citation, received his signature and was about to walk away when the man asked, "Officer, I know I was speeding, but I don't think it's fair - there were plenty of other cars around me who were going just as fast, so why did I get the ticket?" "Ever go fishing?" the policeman suddenly asked the man. "Ummm, yeah..." the startled man replied. The officer grinned and added, "Ever catch all the fish?" ha ha ha Return to Top Complaints? Kudos? Please let me know. Peace | ||
