WORD FROM THE MEISTER

Even though we haven't gotten any snow yet, Christmas is upon us. This is a first in years, a snow-less Christmas, but I won't let that get me down. I just take comfort that I am where I am. In a house - it's warm inside, and I have lots of cool DVD's to re-familiarize myself with - "It's a Wonderful Life", "A Christmas Carol", "Elf", and other films that are the "cannon" of the holidays. I'm grateful to be here with my family - it's a thanksgiving of sorts - all one needs are memories of a "Christmas Past" when things weren't so joyous to put things into perspective. Mine was Christmas 1990 when I was in the middle of a stupid desert just south of the Iraqi border. We had been there for nearly a month, and everyday - without a break - we had been rehearsing on how we were going to breach and clear enemy (Iraqi) minefields. I was a Squad Leader in the combat engineers, and that was our job - to lead the tank forces across the flaming valley of death. We all thought we were going to die.

But Christmas came, and we took time out. We had pancakes for breakfast (grilled up by the First Sergeant), and distributed gifts by our makeshift Christmas tree - a piece of plywood cut into the right shape and decorated with odds and ends. It was somber - a bit depressing. None of us wanted to be there. And it wasn't anything like most of you saw on CNN. We had no volley ball nets. We had no recreation facilities whatsoever. We heated 5 gallon water cans with road flares for our showers. We were in the middle of a vast flatness with an endless horizon. Nothing - no hills - no vegetation - nothing except the vanishing point of the horizon that encompassed us all. At the edge of the world, the land was dotted with an adjacent company's vehicles and tents. Distances were hard to judge since there were no landmarks - it was as if we were at sea. And to me it seemed like an ancient sea. The ground was strewn with walnut sized igneous rocks, and I wondered where they came from.

Boredom was not an option, we worked every day - hard tough work. We were the combat engineers and our mission was to clear paths through the minefields so that the 1st Infantry Division's tanks could speed through and regroup on the far side. None of us looked forward to the inevitable; once the war machine jerks into motion it doesn't stop too easily. And it still seems to be churning away...

So here I am - 16 years later and banging out this newsletter. I am thankful for everything I have, and I hope you, my dear ${token2}, are lucky enough to be in the same state of circumstance - thankful for what you have. If not, have hope that there will be better times ahead. Trust me - it'll come.

And now for the humor......
You Know You've Had Too Much Christmas Cheer When...
1. You notice your tie sticking out of your fly.
2. Someone uses your tongue for a coaster.
3. You start kissing the portraits on the wall.
4. You see your underwear hanging from the chandelier.
5. You have to hold on to the floor to keep from sliding off.
6. You strike a match and light your nose.
7. You take off your shoes and wade in the potato salad.
8. You hear someone say, "Call a priest!"
9. You hear a duck quacking and it's you.
10. You complain about the small bathroom after emerging from the closet.
11. You refill your glass from the fish bowl.
12. You tell everyone you have to go home... and the party's at your place.
13. You ask for another ice cube and put it in your pocket.
14. You yawn at the biggest bore in the room... and realize you're in front of the hall mirror.
15. You pick up a roll, and butter your watch.
16. You suggest everyone stand and sing the national budget.
17. You're at the dinner table and you ask the hostess to pass a bedpan.
18. You take out your handkerchief and blow your ear.
19. You tell your best joke to the rubber plant.
20. You realize you're the only one under the coffee table.

CONFERENCE CORNER

African Gambling Roundtable 2007

Tropical Durban on the east coast of South Africa will be the place for affiliates to be around the middle of 2007, when the big guns of South African online gambling put together a major, 300 delegate conference of global interest.

During the past year the international online gambling industry has gone through many changes that have required co-operation between operators, affiliate marketers and service providers in the industry. With the enactment of controversial anti-online gambling legislation in the US it has become even more important to educate and inform the public about their choices and the importance of fighting for their democratic right of choice.

The already tough industry is now even tougher. Marketing strategies that are in large part shared between all parties involved in the industry have become increasingly competitive and more complex. Search Engine updates have changed the importance of some of the online marketing strategies even more.

Linking partnerships have become crucial and viral campaigns have sub-divided even further into more specialised forms of viral marketing. Keeping track of this amazing growth has become complicated.

South Africa is home to many in the industry and is to a large degree a seminal location for the business. This fascinating country is therefore a logical venue for the industry to come together and team up for the future. With the South African government following the wise path of legalising online gaming, its involvement with such an event is crucial.

Pulling all of this together and providing a great networking environment is the planned Gambling Roundtable. An event where new friendships will be formed and leaders in the industry will share their expertise and insights.

Krevents.com in cooperation with the South African National Gambling Board, the Department of Trade and Industry, Durban City Council, the Local Government of Kwazulu Natal and the Gambling Industry Association will bring this event to Durban in Mid 2007.

Krevents will cover the accommodation and local travel requirements for 300 affiliates and speakers to ensure that affiliates can have a productive and a fun time.

The event promises to be a unique opportunity for affiliates, held in a uniquely African vibrant environment that will offer quality relevant topics. Over a period of 3 days an exhibition centre and 2 seminar rooms will be made available.

For more information as this major project develops, readers can contact the Krevents team at krevents.com or gamblingroundtable.com
