Dear Reader,

Yeah, I'm still chillin' yet trying to work at the same time. Pardon the apparent slackiness, but that's life in northern Bavaria right after New Years.

Appreciatively yours,

Bryan

    WORD FROM THE MEISTER
    BUT IT'S NOT ALL PLAY
Sure I've been taking most afternoons off this past couple of weeks. One of my oldest daughters is visiting from the states, so we're playing tourist right now. I learned how to ski this past weekend (got my ass kicked, but I survived), and went skating for the first time today - didn't fall down once. Been checking out the local castles and other neighboring things. It's nice to try to see the familiar from the eyes of a tourist.

But it's not all play. I've been working way late at night on a number of projects. One project is the Casinomeister awards that are almost complete. As tradition has it, they are announced the week prior to London's ICE - and man, I'm right on schedule. There are some very interesting awards this year - several new categories, and it's a decent retrospective view of the past year. I'm sure you will be pleased, entertained, amazed, and a few of you might be a little pissed. Watch this spot for the announcement - and subsequent webcast.
    CASINOMEISTER CAUTIONS
I should have done this a long time ago since I was involved with at least one unresolved player issue with a Chartwell powered casino. The casino pulled a disappearing act - the player never saw his money, and the software provider tried to contact the operators but...no luck. This week I placed all Chartwell casinos in a new section at Casinomeister - "Casinomeister Cautions." Why? I'll tell you why.

I have always felt that the buck stops at the software provider when there is a problem. A lot of people disagree with me. They feel that it's the operator, and if there is a problem, take it to the operator's licensing jurisdiction. Well this is crap. You should know as well as I do that there are many licensing jurisdictions that couldn't give a flying rats ass on what happens to a player. Licensors are concerned about getting paid, that's about it. So when a casino has managerial problems, it's the software provider I that I press for player solutions - not the licensing jurisdiction.

I have been dealing with player issues for nearly eight years now, and the times that a licensing jurisdiction has gotten themselves involved with a player's problem...well I could count the number of times on maybe a couple of fingers.

Chartwell has a "hands off" policy towards their licensees. They have told this to me face-to-face and in emails. They will not involve themselves with player issues. Why? Because they feel that they do their due diligence when they take on a licensee. And I can't dispute this. They have some solid organizations to which they provide their software: Victor Chandler, BetandWin, the Spin Room, Eurobet, etc., but they have had licensees that up and disappeared. I almost forgot about this poor player who was stiffed $600 because a Chartwell casino's operators closed shop and *poof* vanished (Caribsunshine-casino.com). Now there seem to be problems at Frontroom and Liquid Club Casino - I'm not sure if it's managerial or financial - but there are problems.

So players need to be advised that if they run into problems with Chartwell powered casinos - they may find out that they are in a very lonely place. More here: http://www.casinomeister.com/rogue/chartwell_gaming_software.html

End note: attitudes like this one (hands off) are just plain idiotic. Both Playtech and RTG had this attitude years ago - "we're only the software provider". Well they learned a hard lesson and their reputation still suffers because of this. Chartwell needs to get with the program and offer its players a safety-net. Players are owed this much.

    SLOT JUNKIES WHERE YOU AT?
Slots!! Slots!! and more Slots!! Hey, there's a tournament you need to get involved with if you're into slots! It's at Slotjunkies.info, and it's probably one of the most ingenious and fun tourneys to get involved with.

The Slot Junkies Challenges are a unique concept whereby players can opt into competitions for their favourite casino games and join in a community of like-minded players. Each month, casinos sponsor certain games and put up prizes for the best win, backed up by a screenshot, during the month.

The winning screenshots are those which show the highest win, based on the number of coins won rather than the actual amount. This gives the "low-rollers" a fairer chance to compete. The first prize each month will vary from game to game and the prize allocation is displayed for each game when you enter the Player Lounge. Second and Third place prizes are also usually available.

    And now for the humor......
    The Blonde Kidnapper

A blonde was down on her luck. In order to raise some money, she decided to kidnap a kid and hold him for ransom.

She went to the playground, grabbed a kid, took him behind a tree, and told him, "I've kidnapped you."

She then wrote a note saying, "I've kidnapped your kid. Tomorrow morning, put $10,000 in a paper bag and put it under the pecan tree next to the slide on the north side of the playground. Signed, a blonde."

The blonde then pinned the note to the kid's shirt and sent him home to show it to his parents. The next morning the blonde checked, and sure enough, a paper bag was sitting beneath the pecan tree. The blonde opened the bag and found the $10,000 with a note that said, "How could you do this to a fellow blonde?"

    Ha ha ha!
