| WORD FROM THE MEISTER | ||
| THIS WEEK'S WEIRDO CRISIS | ||
|
Every week it's somethin'. Posting in popular gambling forums can a tricky thing, especially when you're representing your business - or pretend to be representing a business. At the beginning of the month, a "Rick" from Crown Vegas was posting at Start Casino's forum looking to purchase player databases. A Start Casino forum member commented that this "Rick" was probably getting ready to start a spam campaign. Well Rick replied back "I imagine that I make more in a day than you make in a year. So please keep your comments to yourself, loser. Cheers, Rick." and "Why are you involved in this thread in the first place? This is an industry board, idiot. Nothing here concerns you, run along now." Well, it was only a matter of time before it spilled over to Casinomeister's Forum where "Rick" is also a member. Players were riled that a casino representative would have this attitude, and that casinos are actively trolling the forums looking for databases. CrownVegas jumped into the thread, stating that he was the owner and that "Rick" was a disgruntled ex-employee that still had access to his email account rick@crownvegas.com. CrownVegas identified himself as Tony. Odd, I thought, because I knew the owners, and Tony wasn't one of them. Doubly odd was that this Rick dude had signed up at Casinomeister's forum on the 6th of July (the same date as his postings at Start Casino) and he had inquired about purchasing ad space at Casinomeister on the 19th. If he was a disgruntled ex-employee, why was he looking for clients for Crown Vegas? I confronted "Rick" with CrownVegas' comments that he was a rogue employee, and he slipped away into cyberland saying he "didn't need the drama." Tony (CrownVegas) went on to explain what he thought had happened: this rogue ex-employee was trying to damage their reputation. But it just worsened with IPs matching another Start Casino thread poster (some guy pretending he was from All Slots casino looking for databases) and a new member at Casinomeister. This guy (Casinocruiser) quickly defends CrownVegas, but then he bails. So the thread at Casinomeister just spiraled into a flaming mess; a casino operator trying to tap dance out of a public relations crisis, and some very sharp posters grilling him with a few pointed questions. After a few emails between me and Tony, I came to understand that it seems as though there was shift in ownership - but I honestly don't think it was a total one. No one seems to know what the intentions were of "Rick", and what he was doing making the posts that he made. Rick will remain a mystery - for now. And now it's quiet, and we move on. One final comment, the initial alarm of a casino looking to buy a player list is a legitimate and serious one. RTG casinos are under legal obligation to not attempt to purchase or sell user databases. I know it's happened in the past, but to do so violates their contract with Montana Overseas. That's a quick and easy way to have a casino shut down. Players and operators should be aware of this. The thread in it's entirety can be found here: http://www.casinomeister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8962 | ||
