17 March 2005 Issue #223 weekly Dear Reader,
Grooviness is here. Spring is just around the bend - this weekend in fact. The snow has just about completely melted away. It stays lighter later, the birds are coming back; you can feel the warmth on its way. Tweedle-dee, tweedle-dee. In this issue: Can't read this newsletter in HTML? | SO, WHERE TO NOW?
| Or should I ask, what will the future bring for Gambling Federation? This past week was a momentous period for Gambling Federation when the Interactive Gaming Council announced that GFed was being ousted effective immediately. And at press time (like, right now), the iGGBA is in the process of their formalities of decision making. The CAP (Casino Affiliate Programs) has removed them from their accredited section, which is another blow since many affiliates will choose not to promote them. And then GFed's CEO Flaviano Fogli made a statement yesterday: | ||

Gambling Federation responds to IGC membership termination March 16, 2005 - Gambling Federation is pleased that the IGC board supports the idea that theft and conversion of property is a reprehensible act. Unfortunately when IGC informed that there are appropriate means to deal with such cases, they failed to indicate what these means were. Does IGC consider legally pursuing the perpetrator(s) of theft and conversion of property as appropriate means? Considering the offshore presence of the industry and considering that transfers of property do not, for the most part, leave a physical address, it is safe to say that legal actions are not effective and therefore not appropriate to solve this issue. If an answer could be given, in a reasonable time frame, this might help to define a code of conduct for the entire industry, in the unfortunate event that an operator or software house is one day victim of theft and/or conversion of property. If no answer is provided, it would appear that the only appropriate solution would be no action at all. If no action is the only possible answer to theft and conversion of property, then with this decision IGC is in reality, indirectly and unwilling, leaving it wide open to the ones that perpetuate theft and conversion of property and leaving its members without any possible protection. This might discourage other operators or software houses from applying for an IGC membership. Considering the delicacy of this issue, it is understandable if IGC would like to take the necessary time to answer. As for, Gambling Federation's membership fee, it is strongly suggested that IGC donate the concerned sum to a charity organization of their choice. Flaviano Fogli, CEO Gambling Federation

By reading this, I'm wondering how much consultation they opted for before making this public. I don't mean to tear this apart, but the English is poor and I'm having difficulty reading this without stumbling through each paragraph. And after doing so, I ask myself - "What was the point behind this press release?" Gambling Federation would have been better off by not making a response. It seems as though they are shifting the blame toward the IGC which doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense. To begin with, it was Gambling Federation's responsibility to protect this property (their player database). Once this property was compromised, the players and Gambling Federation's affiliates should have been immediately notified. Did this database contain much more than simply email addresses? This leaves one to speculate and guess "yes". There's is a good chance that it included passwords and all. Only Gambling Federation and Royal Dutch Casino have the answer to this one. Everyone is so damn worried about covering their own asses or looking bad, and the players are treated like crap. What an industry! Gambling Federation displayed a blatant lack of respect toward their players AND affiliates - and any webmaster still affiliated with GFed should take a moment to evaluate their standards and ethics. Are they (the affiliates) willing to continue supporting a company that disregarded player privacy to this extent? And the last thing I have to say about this whole episode: I sympathize with all of the loyal hardworking GFed employees that had no idea that this was going on and have gotten caught in the crossfire. They were duped as badly as the unknowing player. What a shameful thing to do to their employees. And all because of a bad bad person who used to work for them. Talk about getting screwed twice. GFed must be fuming (I know they are). But one thing to bear in mind, I have not forgotten about Royal Dutch Casino. GFed was doing everyone a favor by blocking this site from view. Much more on this later...that's for damn sure. |

from the forum... Once, a gay man went to heaven. At the Pearly Gate Saint Peter was waiting for him. After reviewing his records Saint Peter decided to let him in. "Follow me." he said, opening the gate and walking in. After some walk, Saint Peter's keys accidentally fell on the ground. Unaware, he bent over to pick up the keys. That was something the gay man just couldn't resist, so he jumped on him and did his thing. Saint Peter was furious. "If you do that again, you'll go straight to hell! Follow me, we're almost there." After some more Peter dropped his keys again, and again, the gay man jumped on him. Saint Peter was even more furious than before, but decided to give the gay guy one last chance. Again they walk and for the third time Peter drops his keys, so he bends over and picks them up. The gay guy, having no self control jumps on him. Peter is now fed up and sends the gay guy straight to hell. A few weeks later, Saint Peter goes down to hell for his routine inspection, but this time something is wrong, it is freezing, no fire, no lava and in one corner, he finds the devil lying under a stack of blankets freezing his ass off. "Why is it so god damn cold down here?" Peter asks. The devil replied, "Well, ever since you sent that new guy down here, I'm afraid to bend over and pick up the firewood!"
