Dear Readers,

How depressing. I took the tree down today (Christmas tree) and just threw
it into a pile of neighborhood ex-Christmas trees. Oh, what a bummer.
It's a sign that several months of winter will be lingering with us...and
there's not
much to do except deal with the cold and wait, and wait, and wait.

But it's not like I have nothing to do. As many of you know, I have my
"pitch a bitch" section of Casinomeister where players of online
casinos submit problems when they are having difficulties with
certain casinos. And as many of you are aware, the OPA has shut
down (scroll down to read more on this), so my workload has increased
a bit. Also, I have been forwarded many of the complaints from the OPA
so I'll be checking into them as well. If you a member of the OPA and you
had recently filed a complaint...you're not stuck out in the cold. I'll be
picking up the ball for many of these so to speak. My nimble little fingers
will be typing away; the friction warming the rest of my body like a hot
cup o'java.

Busily yours,

Bryan

On 12/30/01, I ended up losing over $41,000 after which I
deposited another $1000. According to the email, I should
qualify for a 10% of my lost amount be refunded. Instead
the casino gave me $100, saying that they only refund 10% of
the deposit....

Can you read the above email, and I've I'm wrong let me
know, otherwise can you help in getting the $4,000+ which I
feel they owe me.

Thanks again,
Suzi

5. OPA DISBANDS

Online crusader runs out of steam
The only way in which the OPA has been able to achieve quite remarkable
successes for its casino and player members over the last 18 months has
been the voluntary and unpaid efforts of a committee comprised of individuals
from diverse sectors of the industry. The significant costs of running an
organisation like this on an international basis and pursuing thousands of
complaints obviously far exceed the $25 membership subscription.

Over the past couple of months the Association came in for some pretty
tough and dare we say intolerant criticism over a slowdown in claim processing,
and a few vociferous opponents of the OPA were quick to take advantage in
joining in the attacks. It now transpires that the slow down was the result
of key
committee members moving on to escape the stress of an ever increasing
workload, for which there was little sign of appreciation from the membership.
That clearly threw additional loads onto the remaining members and this week
the Association's site gave notice that it was no longer in a position to
prosecute
complaints due to further resignations.

The reaction ranged from sincere regret from the majority to gloating from
less supportive folk. There were a few who were pretty transparently trying
to turn
the affair to their own advantage. And there were also those sage posters who
always seem to emerge after an event with advice and offers to serve, and even
one or two who tried to look businesslike by proposing "new business models"
to kickstart the Association with a new committee.

Talk is cheap and action less common, and it will be interesting to see what
sort of follow-up these people initiate and whether their commitment will
measure
up to the unpaid efforts of their predecessors.

It is ironic that a considerable track record of mediations successful for
casino
and player members alike, and the recent accolade of "Best WatchDog" from
the forty-odd thousand readers of Gambling Online Magazine should be
followed by the disbanding of the OPA due to that most basic fault - lack
of resources.
