When does my Gamstop ban end?

So apparently for one who's seeking to stop gambling for a bit, an optimal solution is getting BetBlocker set up for all devices, and then seeing an expert at a national help service - Gamcare.

Gamstop won't prevent one from accessing anything gambling related on the Internet, but BetBlocker will.

I'm not too sure about how BetBlocker works, but I think it has some kind of a keyword database that won't give the results back to the searcher, and there may be even casinomeister among

yes they do that I join gamstop on Covi19 time, my bank and GP call me, about gambling problem, wtf I ask who told you I got gambling problem they sad gamstop, they have rights to share your data with everyone include your employment,I join to have brake to see what is happen with covi19 fkerss they made so much drama about it, I gamble for 20+ years my worst experience is when I join gamstop..but is very easy trick to play on any UK casino when you are in gamstop, but you need to open new casino account
My point was that I found it strange that the UKGC makes a complete responsible gambling toolkit mandatory for all licenced casinos, but I could not find information on these facilities and their usefulness on GAMSTOP.or GAMCARE.

gamstop for short time is no go 100% I think they more to long terms, is also stupid if ppl miss end date they will extend to 7 years more, is like forcing ppl to stay on gamstop

So, where do I start with Gamstop....read this carefully if you are thinking of signing up.

I signed up with them 5 years ago and since my exclusion ended (May last year), most operators act on the basis that I am still self excluded. I've had about six out and out declines to open new accounts and one operator applied a very small limit (ÂŁ250 a month). I have found it is possible to re-open an account but after a lot of jumping through hoops; source of funds, means testing, etc. I don't actually have an issue with this as I have no problem with limits, providing P60s, etc.

The fundamental issue is that Gamstop will continue to advise operators that you were previously excluded for seven years after your exclusion ends, irrespective of how long you signed up for; e.g. 1 year=8 years. They will also store your data for a further seven years for research purposes. So in my case, my personal data will be stored for a total of 19 years. 12 of which is being openly shared with operators (5 of the original self exclusion plus 7 after it ended). I have asked for Gamstop to remove all personal data and withdrawn my consent for ongoing sharing of data and they have refused. They have simply cited their T & Cs and I believe this fundamentally goes against 'the right to be forgotten' from a GDPR perspective. I currently have a complaint outstanding with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) but I am dubious that this will go anywhere.

Morally, I think Gamstop's behaviour is highly questionable. Appreciate we all go through rough patches with Gambling but ultimately it comes down to a choice. When an exclusion ends, we all have a choice to go back to gambling or to stop. I think Gamstop is a good tool for those that want to put Gambling behind them for good but you need to be very clear that any exclusion will come will a very heavy price if you are concerned about data sharing or want to use online services in the future. As others have said, think about Gamstop carefully if you want to give up.

My personal view is that the better approach to giving up is via counselling and layering (take away time, take up other hobbies, etc.) Gamstop is just a tool but for some, it is akin to using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.

Unfortunately Gamstop is effectively "for life", regardless of if you sign up for a short break, due to the way operators use the data to effectively blacklist anyone who was formerly on the service.

There are other tools available to you in addition to Gamstop, which actually can be more effective. Betblocker is one as mentioned above, but most banks I believe also enable you via their app to block all gambling transactions.

FWIW I signed up with Gamstop years ago and haven't even attempted to now remove the exclusion.

Most UK banks allow blocking gambling transactions, but it's quite easy to unblock them. Monzo seems pretty decent because one needs to speak with customer support first to enable transactions that involve gambling. RBS allows you to turn them back after 48 hours. HSBC and Barclays after 72 hours. Starling is useless; you can simply toggle on and off.

Loving how Gamstop was sold as a pro-player, intuitive and helpful gambling aid at release, only to discover that it is in fact a virtual tar & feather data collection mining ransomware 🤔

You'd think with it being slapped on most UK online casinos that it'd be somewhat more flexible, and perhaps less hostile to those wishing to take up any of their time-out options, with punters being able to resume gambling at their behest upon expiration of said Self-exclusions.

Amazing then, that it turns out to be little more than a database from which the UKGC and casinos can fulfil their quotas in identifying 'problem gamblers'

Still, for all its (many) faults, for my specific desire to cease UK-based online slotting, it certainly did the trick and saved me a tonne of money I'd have needlessly splurged on what is now 'anti-entertainment', so in that sense, a job well done!
