Many long time players will find themselves being asked for ID now for new accounts, and even older ones where they make their first withdrawal. This is because things are not the same as before, casinos just do not trust their players anywhere near the extent they used to. Before, documents were requested if there was any niggling doubt that the player was up to something, now, documents are requested as the assumtion is that players are potentially guilty of fraud, and presentation of the requested documents clears them as "innocent", until security find some reason later on to doubt this.
Usually, what is requested is 1x Photo ID & 1x bill to address proving link between player and the registered address. If cards have been used, then a deposit declaration form is usually required.
While "thousands" of Emails are sent daily, this would be the routine stuff through support - are they really trying to claim that SECURITY have to deal with "thousands" of Emails a day!
It is more like SUPPORT have screwed up in not properly processing the sent documents, and are sitting on this as though it was some minor routine inquiry of less importance than those that prevent players from DEPOSITING, which I am sure get answered quickly.
This simply adds further delay to the process of getting paid, a day here, a delay there, it all adds up. The result being p****d off players, who might not bother to deposit again after such an experience of incompetence.
There are still a few developed countries that do NOT routinely issue PHOTO ID to citizens (the UK being one - citizens use Drivers licence or passport if they have one as a proxy form of photo ID), and citizens have to apply for something only when they have a need for it. This adds even further delay, as it now can take a couple of months to get a passport, and even a driving licence (the new one, with photo) can take a month.
Although the EU has stipulated that all Drivers Licences have to be a photo one, the UK government has managed to get itself an "opt out" in the sense that those who already have the old style are not automatically changed over to the new form - cost of doing so being the main driving force, the government simply don't want to pay for it. By only allowing drivers to get the new form if they want it, the government are able to charge the driver again for what he has already paid for because they claim it was a voluntary act. To get one for free, either move house, or get a driving ban, or get sick and have them put you on a medical licence.
If you don't have a photo licence, or passport, then you have at least a month to wait for this withdrawal, but you should eventually get it.
As far as I know, the UK is unique in the EU for not having some kind of universal ID card that all citizens routinely get issued when they become adults. All we get issued with is our unique national insurance number, which comes on a bit of paper or a letter - no card or photo, but this unique number DOES act as ID in the computers at Revenue & Customs (except when they cock-up, and issue duplicates, or even lose CDs containing the data
