To any computer savy people out there. I use Avast anti virus protection for my computer. I ran a boot scan and it scanned my hard drives 100%. Upon scanning I noticed to things popped up. they both started the same but at the end were a little different. They both had an error message at the end error 42127 {CAB archive is corrupted.} and the other error 42145 {installer archive corrupted.}

any idea what this means and can it be corrected or should I just leave it alone?

what extensions are on the corrupt files? CAB files are your operating system files. If you use windows, I'd run windows update and see if it picks up the bad files.

Could be a rootkit Trojan. However before you become totally freaked out...

Try the Avast web site most decent software has information regarding these type of errors spat out by its software.

You could also look in Google...

Cheers

I havbe been having trouble with viruses when I download RTG Casinos

I am not saying this may have something to do with your corrupt files problems, but has anyone noticed that every time you download any RTG Casino you get a virus. My virus software alerts me to a virus every time I download a RTG Casino, so I don't download them anymore.

It could be archived restore points causing the problem. CAB is a format Windows uses for everything it needs to store, but not regularly access. There is also a system file backup on your hard drive in CAB format, which Windows can use to "restore system files" if any of those in regular use become corrupted.

Software can lead to this problem by installing a system file that it has in it's installer package that is not the one the current version of the OS expects. I have had this happen to me a few times in Windows 98, but not so far with XP.

IF you are confident that your current system is working fine, you can delete some of the earlier restore points. Leave the later ones, and especially one from BEFORE you started seeing this problem. If the problem is old restore points, the error should clear.

You should also try to see if AVAST offers more details, such as which CAB file it thinks is corrupt. This will help to determine where the error lies, and how critical it might be.

I have had software tell me of a "critical problem", and found it to be a mistake. I am trying out Ashampoo HDD Control, and it seems to interpret power saving features of my D: drive (shuts down when not in use) as a "critical problem". It also alerted me to a problem with a sudden drop in health of my C: drive, but this was when a scheduled anti virus scan was taking place, which always slows things down.

Got ya

Thanks for the help :D I will fool around with it and try some things you mentioned.

Ashampoo HDD Control? Is this free software or do you have to purchase it?

Yeah Iv'e had problems in the past with programs saying files were corrupt and really they were just fine.

I came across this thread/site that has a section on CAb corrupt files for you.

It does seem to be directed around the windows update so have a look and read what is posted there and hopefully will fix your issue.

You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

Or just google "CAB archive is corrupt" and this should bring something back for you.
