Hey Guys,

for me playing online slots is a big hobby and a lot of fun. My financial situation is OK. I can afford vacations etc. and making a good living... But if i win a couple of hundred in a casino thats pretty cool for me and extra money i can definitely use :)

So i always asked myself... Let's imagine i win, i don't know 500'000$. Would that change my behavior? Would it still be fun playing with 1$ bets, or would it then be like 500 more or less who cares?

You know what i mean? I just always asked me that... Maybe someone can reply who had a big win, how their gambling behavior changed (if it changed).

I'm just wondering.... :)

Thanks Guys,
Hoff

i don't play progressive jackpots so i can't hope for that but i imagine what i would do with them. a world tour, visiting every place worth seeing and then revisiting what i liked the most. this alone may take 2 years. i can't see any time for slots with that whole sum in my hands. too many things to do other than feeding casinos. i don't have much fun in online casinos as i have in landbased and when i have, i never deposit for fun factor but with the only purpose of winning. cut one zero to that sum and for me still is life changing money for at least 7 years.

I don't think it would change my behavior that much. I would probably up my bets more than normal (like $3) and maybe take a few crazy bets here and there but I wouldn't dare of doing those $50 spins I see in some screenies. A win such a that is once in a lifetime and I would not want to waste it away given some of the shocking runs I've had in the past that can obliterate a few hundred dollar balances at minimum bet. But first let my try and even get 1/100th of that and then we'll talk.

Yeah tinybettor, i always thought for me the same... I will probably do "riskier" bets, but not too crazy.

Good thread -
I haven't had any "life-changing" wins, but have had some nice ones. When I win large, I always buy something tangible, new TV, take a vacation, "something" to show for that win. I do generally bet higher after a big win, but always use $$ to get something AND most importantly to share with my husband. He resents sometimes the amount of time I spend on the computer working and playing. So I want him to feel a part of my big wins.

FWIW,
Diane

I've often wondered that myself, and I'm almost certain it would. I've been a gambler since childhood.

After becoming debt-free for my house and probably 25K of renos I'd sink it almost all the rest into an annuity, and it would give me a very nice monthly income.

I'd undoubtedly make more B&M trips. It's been since last summer, but going out of town with a small bankroll leaves you with lots of idle time usually. I'd fund these out of my monthly income. I'd take my first trip to Vegas.

I'd set myself some deposit limits at the places I play. Right now, my budget is my deposit limit, and it gets bumped up temporarily when I win.

I'd still refuse to use my bank account to gamble with and stick with the prepaid card. The majority of my money wouldn't be easily available.

Now if I won 50 Million in a lottery, I'd take a Million dollar bankroll and see how long I can travel the world and wine and dine on casino junkets.

I'd become much more arrogant and unbearable. :D

I'd also buy glasses with non prescriptive lenses just so I could wear them on the tip of my nose and look down on people. :what:

I think I'd definitely up the bet a bit, but then since such wins are once in a lifetime, I'd probably invest away a good amount as well like buy a house or some other kind of fixed asset investment.....that grows over time....

Yeah i mean i also would not be in danger of playing it all back, i just asked myself if i would still feel the adrenaline etc. then when making bets from 1-3$... If you have so much money on your bank it feels like it doesn't matter if you win or not...

With a win like that (would never happen to me anyway) I would spend a large amount on non gambling things I need. I would keep some back for recreational play and I'd say the most I would go on a spin would be 2.5 a go. So if I won half a mil I'd probably set aside ten grand to gamble with and I'd say that should keep me going a long while. I'd be able to do the things I want to do and still be able to have fun at my favourite casinos. Oh what a nice dream that is:)

I would firstly put a contract out on the Netbent game designers and programmers, well those whom have been identified as responsible for the recent games output....
Then I would invest in a new multi-platform site called 'Dunover's Den'. :D:D:D:D

I would spend $100K spoiling myself rotten with everything new! Then I'd take $250K and invest in some stocks and bonds (I've already got some but you can never have to many). Then I would take the other $250K and invest in opening my own online casino.

Well, wins of 50K haven't changed my behaviour much, although my house looks a bit nicer and I have a new computer:D

I DO find however that I am less likely to withdraw smaller wins for a while after, instead trying for a higher amount. It's probably due to having so much available in my Neteller.

The antidote is to try to wind down, and move a decent chunk straight out of Neteller as soon as it hits, and then start shopping for things that I could do with, but that are "big ticket" items. An example being the 11K spent on solar PV after one such big win. This is like an annuity as for the next 25 years the government pay me 22p per unit of electricity generated, even if I use it myself! If I don't use it, I get a further 3p on top. The capital is set to be returned in the first 10 years, depending on how sunny it is. In annuity terms, it's around 8% per year for 25 years including return of capital, and in years 26+ after the scheme ends it may still be generating electricity, which can still be sold to the distribution network at market rates (a lot more than 3p per unit).

The next big win meant external solid wall insulation, which means a warmer house in winter and cooler in summer. My very first big hit back in 2009 went on clearing the mortgage early.

Provided some is spent each time I have a big hit (not necessarily an overall win in the longer term), it makes it hard to end up losing it all back.

The most recent hits, one before Christmas and one after, have been raided to set up a SIPP pension plan for when I retire from playing Microgaming;) It has, unfortunately, been subject to intense evaporation due to helping out my two nieces. If all goes well, I'll get it all back over time. If things don't go well, it probably means a casino or three lost the chance to win it back off me, but when I am old and frail, I will have two nieces that "owe me one BIG favour".

Now, if I won something MUCH bigger, like £500K or more, I could be in a position to get a much better house. I might then rent out my current property for income.

I think that investing in long term income or money savings is a good strategy. It also converts the money into "stuff", which cannot easily be deposited and frittered away at the casino.

The ultimate win would be one of the big progressives, and it could happen to any one of us at any time we put through a few spins. It will be completely "out of the blue", and could be the most life changing type of win of all. If handled properly, a big progressive should be enough to set someone up securely for the rest of their life. There are, however, those tales of those who have not acted wisely, and have blown the lot in a few years and ended up back to where they were before, but worse off because they have tasted the "high life" and know they will never taste it again.

I think the best Im gona get to a good win is seeing it on my screen, Oh yes I think I would change, I not got much cash so any win I well chuffed, A while back I used to be happy with 20£ wins, some poeople play that on 1 spin lol but Im a low roller, I do have the odd shot on megamhola & hit the minor a few times but thats as close I think I will ever get,
Like vwm stated spruse the house up abit and new mega laptop just so the spins can spin a bit faster :)

If I hit big than champers all round and pull up zoopla to look for that nice house, Actually I think I move out U.K as its a dump, I can not see winning even a hundred mill can change anything living here, Right state of affairs the government has got us into

I will get back when I hit the mega, :)

A good question and I honestly don't know what I would do with such an amount of money.
Probably the basic stuff like paying off the mortgage, buy a nicer car,put some away in savings and spoil my kids and wife.
Also giving some of my winnings to people I know would need it so badly and help them out.

In regards to gambling,I probably would deposit a few k on a casino and play my favourite games with higher stakes.
Just to feel even for a few minutes how it feels to be a high roller, and then if I would not win go back to my average bets of €1.00-2.00. :)

But as many already stated,I am not a person that plays a lot of progressive slots as I find most of them not really appealing.
I play them but mostly like 50-100 spins and that's it.

Mega Moolah is fun but hard to win on,probably due to the jackpots linked to it and TDKR is a nice slot.
These would be the ones I play most when playing progressive slots. :)

Got a few shots on the jackpot wheel but every time,so 100%,I have hit the minor jackpot for like 10-15 quid but the excitement knowing there is a mega jackpot on that wheel and it just might stop for you on the right spot one day. :)

I would end up gambling at higher stakes I think. Even on (comparatively) low wins of £4-5K I have ended up carrying on playing at massively increased stakes - In the most recent case of a £1.5K win obtained at £3 stake per spin I upped the stake to £90 a spin and ended up winning another £5K, then just rattled through that staying at £90 a spin.

Having said that if I had a wife or kids then it would be a different story - if that ever happened then I am pretty sure an hour or two a week at low stakes would be more than enough as I would have more important things to spend money on.

Single men/women without dependents and with a cavalier approach to how they spend their surplus cash (and the need to have a bet now and again) are probably always likely to have a punt on something.

I think it is not so much the amount of a win, rather what else you have going on in your life that would dictate how you behaved after winning it. Saying that though, I think that perhaps everyone has a threshold amount that is significant in some way (such as clearing a mortgage, buying a new car, putting a kid through university etc)

I think for me a threshold amount would be £20K - If I was ever up by that amount in a single session then I would be effectively debt free and I would like to think that I would cash out completely and take a step back from gambling for a while. Willpower permitting of course....

Very nice, Hope all is well in running of wedding, I bet the cash was a good blessing with xmaz and wedding as does not come cheap, I personally wouldn't stick that much back in as I learned my lesson when I had my first good win but yet to get my second,

I wish you all the best and happy spinning all

If i had my time again i wouldn't have played that much but you learn by mistakes i have not played that much this year every now and again
