Dear Ms. X

Thank you for recently contacting my office. The Fourth District encompasses 24 of Tennessee's 95 counties and covers 10,000 of its 40,000 square miles. My district is a rural area containing farmers, working families, small businesses, and factories alike. My hope is that I will always represent the views of the Fourth District.

I appreciate your comments and being informed of your views. Being aware of your position enables me to better represent you in our nation's Capitol. In the current 111th session of Congress, the U.S. House of Representatives is actively engaged in shaping and debating policies designed to improve the lives of Americans and our nation. Your views are an important part of this process and I will keep them in mind.

The days and months ahead present enormous challenges. It is my hope that all members of Congress can come together and work with our new President to create the change that we all desire. In these tumultuous economic times, in which many of my constituents are experiencing real hardships and making difficult sacrifices, it is imperative for Congress to set aside partisan rancor and create real solutions for the American people.

I am committed to representing the views of the Fourth District as accurately as possible. As such, I have been named one of the ten most independent Members of Congress as reported by the National Journal. As long as I serve in Congress I will continue to work for the priorities of my constituents. At the same time, I will consider each bill based on its merits. I will not support or oppose legislation simply based on the position of my party leadership and the President. What I will do is something that has become rare in the modern age of our democratic republic; I will represent the will of my constituents. I think if more Members of Congress did this we would have less partisanship and more legislation that plays to the true base of all politics--the American people.

Again, thank you for your comments and the time you took to reach me.

Sincerely,

Lincoln Davis
Member of Congress

He never said a word about regulating gambling:rolleyes:

I guess i will just have to keep sending him those darn emails:D

Laurie

Can't they just write an email?

Ya know something like..."Thank you for your email, but I cannot comment on your question about online gambling cuz no one knows what the hell is going on."

:D

His email just looks like a bunch of jibberish.

Good point, Just Play. However, if every politician admitted to not knowing up from down, the rest of us would figure out that we do not need them and their horse shit! And then BOOM! Life as we know it would be gone. :D

Really? I got quite a nice response from mine about a week after the vote on HR2267. I wrote him not long before the vote.. In your case, it must be a TN thang :D

PS: The scary part about this is that he's a Republican  ;)

Dear Mr. xxxx:

Thank you for contacting me with your support for H.R. 2267. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to your comments.

As you may know, H.R. 2267, the proposed Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act, would establish a Federal licensing program, administered by the Treasury Department, under which Internet gambling companies could lawfully operate and accept bets or wagers from individuals located in the United States, to the extent permitted by individual states and Indian tribes.

The House Financial Services Committee, of which I am a Member, recently considered this bill on July 29th. I am happy to let you know that I joined my colleagues in supporting this bill and it was ordered to be reported out of the Committee by a bipartisan vote of 41 – 22. House Leadership has indicated that it might be possible that this bill will see additional action later this year. Please know that I will keep you updated on its progress.

Again, thank you for contacting me with you support for this legislation. If I can be of assistance to you or your family in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.

With kind regards, I am

Sincerely,

Jim Gerlach
Member of Congress

blah blah blah...this is the lamest lip service I've heard in awhile. If it were me, I'd tell him that if he can't take the time to comment about his stance on online gambling, then I can't take the time to vote for him when the time comes. :)

LOL! Nice point. actually, if every politician admitted to not knowing what they are voting on or debating then there certainly wouldnt have been the health care vote.. WAIT! Actually, they still would vote on it and admit that they dont know what is in it. That is exactly what they just did! There truly is NO SHAME in these people. voting on things that are huge, nation altering things without even knowing what is in the bill. The current congress have done that with a few things now and it is disgusting.
