I guess that means that people like jon and myself are "double agents", because we do a fair bit of both. And also do not forget that some discussional threads also contain screenshots...examples being "IR has suddenly gone cold", "last night on DOA", "the ultimate DOA thread".
And then there are those threads that come up when a new game has launched. While those threads are intended to be discussional, screenshots inevitably get chucked in there too. Such as the recent Buffalo Blitz thread. So when you think about it, quite a lot of us are in both factions, some a lot more so than others.
It's not a case of might, it's a case of will. Even as someone who probably "contributes" more as a screenshotter than I do as a talker, I don't like the idea that my reputation would increase with greater ease/less effort simply because I got super lucky on a few deposits every month and decided to go screenshot mad. It would actually (as goatie suggested) cheapen the earning of those reputation points. I would much rather get reputation points for expressing a smart thought or giving a well-considered and objective opinion or review on a certain game/casino/whatever.
Another thing that crossed my mind....potential for "abuse" of the reputation points system through screenshotting. Say you had a deposit where you had 10 "post-worthy wins". What's to stop the CM member from composing 10 posts with 1 screenshot in each (and getting 10 "lots" of thanks) instead of composing 2 posts with 5 screenshots in each (the maximum allowed per post) and getting 2 lots of thanks? That would massively skew how a CM member earned the rep power he/she has. And not in a good way.
Would a "screenshot thanks" merely be nothing more than a WTG with a different name? Given that the presence of a WTG has led to this problem, a "screenshot thanks" may simply replace the old problem with a new one.
As for "thanking" screenies, I'm not sure I'd like that, especially if I am on a losing streak. If anything, I'm more likely to want to say "thanks....for nothing" or "thanks....for pissing me off and making me go green with envy you spawny twat" Screw that idea already. Just let me congratulate/WTG them instead. Oh...hold on...I can't do that no more. Shit.
A good idea. However, I only agree with that from the screenshot side. Those who post videos actually have to put a lot more "work/effort" in (ie spend time recording, editing, uploading to YT). Apart from that, those who are posting videos are actually providing "viewing entertainment" for the CM community. In my opinion, that represents a considerably greater contribution than posting a mere (handful of) screenshot(s) and arguably it deserves to be weighted on the same level as posts in discussional threads/topics.
Put it this way, what would you rather "thank" suomikala for? Posting 5 screenshots or posting a winners video? It's a no brainer. Video....every time.
"DO NOT FUCK WITH ME GAME!"
But this is better. No risk of skewing the reputation points in favour of the screenshotter and at the expense of the talker, but still enabling the community to acknowledge/applaud/congratulate a good winning hit.
Couldn't agree more. WTG mate. Oops....I meant "thanks"
Actually I'd say that you & Jon are quite rare in that you do both quite frequently. Most members lean heavily towards one or the other, unless my eyes deceive me.
As for the likes of DOA threads and new slot announcements, yes they will invariably contain a multitude of screenshots within them. These are often accompanied by a few lines about how the session went or what people's expectations of a new slot might be.
Hence, I would still classify this as being interpreted as active involvement as opposed to just posting a screenshot in the WS and not much else, eg Rolastan.
