There doesn't seem to be as much of a stigma against pays that would force a tax declaration here -- for Christ's sake, $1,250 was a spot on the wheel. I think they want to make the payouts appear the same as they are on the non-$5 WOFs in terms of spin value per credit, but just show the actual cash value.

BTW, that $5k was hit on one $100 bill, and was my second spin bonus.

Correct, they just used the lower denom wheel of fortune game and put the cash value on the wheel, the high limit WOF's I've played are 2 coin and hit the spin more often with the lesser top pay of $1195 (299 credits) to avoid the tax man.

I guess it could be worse, you could be waiting on that W2G for the $1250, a mere $51 over the taxable limit.

Yeah, I think I'd rather have $1,000 than $1,250 in that situation! Luckily I didn't have to worry about that conundrum. Between lottery tickets and other losses elsewhere, I figure I should be able to write off enough of it in '09 taxes..
