32 Red Does Credit Checks on their Customers

Let me start by saying that I regularly play at several casinos, and this is the first time and only time this has happened, so I assume this is not common practice.

A couple of months ago, I registered and played at 32 Red. Several times a year, I go to Equifax to check my credit report, just to make sure everything is as it's supposed to be. I did this a couple of days ago, and was very surprised (more like shocked) to see that 32 Red had done a credit check on me. Like I said, no other casino has ever done this - only 32Red.

As you know, when a credit check is made on you by anyone, your credit score takes a negative hit - albeit a small one, but a hit nonetheless. At this point, I want nothing more to do with 32 Red because I personally find this quite unacceptable. I'm not financing a car or a house - I'm simply making a small CC deposit, so there is absolutely no need for a credit check! Also, they make no reference about this practice in their Terms and Conditions, and I think they should. People should be made aware that a credit check may be done on them.

I just wanted to warn people that 32 Red may be doing a credit check on you as well, so be warned!

Are you sure they made a "credit check" and not only a confirmation for your identity ?
This they make in my country and i never needed to send documents for prove my identity.

It was a credit check. Regardless, even if it was an identity inquiry, you're credit score still takes a minor negative hit.

Did you ask the casino why they did this?
    What was their response?

I agree that no casino should ever be checking a player's credit, unless you are applying for credit at the casino and wish to play with markers, which I've never heard of in online gambling.

If I understood it correctly, when a "credit check" is being done, a small amount being blocked on your card (not charged from it, just blocked), so you don't see it on your balance. Funds is usually unblocked within 24 hours.

actually credit check in Canada means something else

"A report containing detailed information on a person's credit history, including identifying information, credit accounts and loans, bankruptcies and late payments, and recent inquiries. It can be obtained by prospective lenders with the borrower's permission, to determine his or her creditworthiness."
    Who took my money ??

Sounds like a hard pull from what the OP is saying. Here's a link explaining soft and hard pulls.

Minor change to the thread title: deleted "Warning" because it could be confused with an official Casinomeister Warning. Apologies in advance for any inconvenience this might cause.

The guy is in Canada and I doubt that has any relevance there.

No prob with changing thread title, maxd. I should have know better myself.

Not sure if soft pull/hard pull applies as there is nothing to differentiate the two on my credit report. The 32Red check is listed with the credit checks that my auto finance company, mortgage company, cc companies, etc. have made in the past. Those credit checks are expected as they are related to financing and cc applications I've made in the past (which were legit credit checks). At any rate, whether it's a hard or soft pull is irrelevent - 32Red has no business performing any type of credit check on their customers, especially without informing them about this practice. This is what I have a problem with.
