Not sure if soft pull/hard pull applies as there is nothing to differentiate the two on my credit report. The 32Red check is listed with the credit checks that my auto finance company, mortgage company, cc companies, etc. have made in the past. Those credit checks are expected as they are related to financing and cc applications I've made in the past (which were legit credit checks). At any rate, whether it's a hard or soft pull is irrelevent - 32Red has no business performing any type of credit check on their customers, especially without informing them about this practice. This is what I have a problem with.
Actually, the privacy policy states that they can use a Credit Reporting Agency to confirm your identity and that this particular activity does NOT affect your credit rating. In fact I can't see how it would as you are not applying for credit. I am certain there will be some kind of classification for ID-only checks and they may not even be visible to potential creditors. You need to contact the CRA and seek clarification about the effects it has had on your score before suggesting that 32Red are damaging your personal financial reputation.

Remember, you did agree to this when you created your account.

I see your point, I personally wouldn't want this on my credit report either. Oh, BTY - Their site does say the following:

"By accepting these terms and conditions you consent to such checks being made. In performing these checks personal information provided by you may be disclosed to a registered Credit Reference Agency which may keep a record of that information."

Why would they provide your information to a Credit Agency if they wern't going to do a credit check?

Again I don't like the process as you but from a quick review over at 32red, they've done nothing wrong per their privacy terms.

Because they are doing identity and address verification. I don't know whether it is even visible to lenders, but if it is, it will be marked as an identity check not a credit check.

I remember my 1st withdrawal at 32Red I rang them and asked if they required any identity verification docs, `Nope, we have already verified you`, worked for me, and as stated by Nifty, we gave them permission to do this when joining.

Just to add to Niftys post - it was most likely an identity verification check, this check is visible on your copy of the credit report so you can know who's been snooping, but it isn't visible to anyone else (eg: potential lenders). So it will have no effect on your credit rating. Unless of course, somethings changed in the years since I worked for a bank, which I'll admit is a possibility...

FYI, a couple of other big UK brands also do this (Sky, National Lottery) as well as a host of other (non-gambling) companies.

There is a thread somewhere else on this forum about WagerWorks doing this. As has already been said it was confirmed then as an identity check and nothing to do with your finances also it is NOT visible to other lenders and is NOT having any effect on your report whatsoever.

    Ladies and Gents,
Just to clarify matters and apologies for having not done this sooner (the delights of a week off!).

We undertake a number of checks so as to validate personal information (name, address and date of birth as examples) that has been supplied by a player. These checks are undertaken in the background at the time of an initial deposit and we utilise the services of GB Group in the UK (http://www.gb.co.uk/) and 192.com for the Rest of the World (http://www.192business.com/) to facilitate the checks.
In performing these checks we may disclose some of the information to a Credit Reference Agency who in turn has a legal responsibility to keep records of all searches undertaken.

These checks are only undertaken to confirm identity and at no point are we seeking a credit check and, as a result, an individual’s credit rating will not be affected. As 'baldidiot' states these ‘non-credit’ searches that we undertake are not seen by any financial institution (lenders are only able to see credit searches) but an individual will see all searches undertaken about them when they apply for their own credit report.
    Regards
    Pat

wish all casinos would verify players that way..would save on all this document sending..because frankly u never know what someone can do with the documents that you are asked to send...im perfectly happy to be verified in such a way as im sure most would be ..as long as it simply for verification puirposes i see no harm to it....

it far better than sending someone copies of passports driving licences utility bills details bank statements etc etc...these are important docs that hold a lot of personel information that in the wrong hands can be very harmful to us..
