Poker Complaint Poker770 is running French-only tournaments

Poker770 has it's own forum and chat room and holds password protected tournaments for these events.

An hour before the tournament starts they give out the password in the chat room and I enter it each time to get the password and play.

I can not participate in the chat though, because they only permit French to be spoken, and I don't, but I am entitled to play the tournaments because I am a member of the forum/chat room and Poker770 (I have even deposited)

Last Saturday (27/9) I WON the tournament.



Instead of getting $20 credited to my account, nothing happened.

After sending NUMEROUS emails to support asking about this, they FINALLY replied (8 days later) with:

Dear Mr. Hxxxx,

We are writing in reply to your message.

We inform you that on the Forum of our site the conditions that must be
accomplished in order to receive your prize at $100 Forum cf-poker and
Prive-tour de France are well stated:

"1) Les tournois organisés par poker770 (Tour de france et 100$ cf poker
uniquement)

Le nombre minimum de joueur sera de 30.

Les tournois ne seront plus sur liste, par contre pour toucher votre gain
il faudra être présent sur le chat lors de ce tournoi et participer a la
vie du chat. Les gains seront payés par le support au maximum dans les 5
jours (le temps que le support fasse les vérifications de votre présence
sur le chat).

Le mot de passe sera donné uniquement sur le chat pendant l’heure qui
précède le tournoi"

(The tournaments organised by Poker770 (Tour de france and 100$ cf poker
only).

The minimum number of players is 30.

The tournaments will no longer be on the list, and in order to receive
your prize you must be connected to chat during the tournament and
participate lively at it. The prizes will be paid by the support within a
maximum delay of 5 days (while the support verifies if you were connected
to chat).

The password will be given only on the chat, one hour before the beginning
of the tournament".)

As I already mentioned, I do not speak French, so I am not allowed to 'participate lively' in the chat room and I have looked VERY hard to find these 'terms' and I can not find them ANYWHERE on their site.

In addition, this site happily recruits players from all over the world, even has special marketing and tournaments for Canadian players only, yet they suddenly come up with this way of scamming it's legitimate players.

If this site was actually honest and respectable, they would have done something...at least given me the benefit of the doubt, paid my winnings and politely let me know the terms for future reference, but they haven't.

Instead it's 'screw you, because you're not French'

I see that this site has NO relationship with Casinomeister at all...and has quite a few complaints against it.

Perhaps someone could address all the issues people are having with this site?

I have finally had a few email responses from Poker770 regarding this issue, but they all say the same thing:

We are writing in reply to your message.

As mentioned in the previous message, our conditions are well stated on
the Forum of our site.

In conclusion, the players have been informed that in order to receive
their prize they must be connected to chat during the tournament and
participate lively at it.

The forum is ENTIRELY in French only.

The chat room rules state that ONLY FRENCH may be used.

Poker770 actively and aggressively recruits new players from all over the world, but when it comes to making them feel welcome, it ONLY applies to French speaking people.

This now tells me that this poker room is RACIST AND BIGOTED against all non-French speaking players.

Nothing in the text you've posted says anything about "crooked tournaments". Your primary complaint, actually pretty much your only complaint, is that the site is French-only which you claim is "RACIST AND BIGOTED".

(1) It appears to me that you selected the "crooked tournaments" heading simply because it was shocking and inflammatory. As such I've taken the liberty to change it to something more representative of the true nature of your complaint.

(2) It is not "RACIST AND BIGOTED" to offer services only in the language of site operator's choice. Try going to some Russian site and demand that they speak in English for your benefit. Or better yet invite some Swahili person to start posting in Swahili on an English-only site and see how warm their reception is, especially if they are irritable and prone to calling people there racists and bigots. Not! Furthermore this is an English-only site. If you started posting in a foreign language we'd ask you to respect the site and post in English.

Find another site if the one you happen to have parked your bottom on is not providing services in the language of your choice.

Or learn French.

First of all, when I posted the complaint originally, I had used that title because it was how I felt at the time. The revelation about the site being bigoted has only recently occurred as this issue has unfolded.

Second, this site is PUBLICLY TRADED on the London Stock Exchange, (last time I checked, England was an ENGLISH speaking country) and operates poker770.co.uk as it's way of actively pursuing the English speaking player.

By doing this, and then automatically giving all non-French speaking players a severe handicap by making everything French only and going out of their way to make the English speakers feel unwelcome..

The tournament fiasco that had started all is a perfect example of this and that is why it is posted here.

15.1 This contract, its interpretation and its execution, as well as all other legal relations between the parties to this contract, should be regulated and interpreted according to the laws of England.

15.2 In case of complaint or dispute, the English version of this contract shall prevail against any other Poker770 version that we may have previously emitted. If you wish to be regularly in possession of the updated English version of our terms and conditions, please contact our customer service.

15.3 16.Any complaint or dispute, direct or indirect, arising from this contract shall be pursued in a Court of Law competent in England. In spite of the latter, Poker 770 reserves, at its discretion, the right to bring legal suit against any Poker770 service/software user in front of any competent court of law whether or not it be in the user's jurisdiction.

The sites' own T&C's state that English is boss.
