    Not much action

Around here in awhile. People must be slowing down. I see the same threads are hanging around longer.

I guess from time to time all forums experience slow periods in amount of new threads being posted. Personally I have found here at CM there is usually a steady stream of new threads for people to chip in on.

What you do tend to find in many forums including this one is threads are mostly started by the newer members and you get the hardcore contributing with the benefit of their experience.

Also you may find some members are at times hesitant to start a new thread in case its a repeat of one thats been done before.

With the sheer volume of threads on this site, I have found there is always posts to contribute on. (Just like this one I am contributing now to)!

As mentioned everything goes in cycles. Posts to the boards are part of that, as are PABs which I deal with.

This will be my third Christmas season handling the PABs and each year I've observed that Nov-Dec-Jan is something of a slow-down period for them. By February though they're back with a vengeance. I don't have the stats in from of me but I'd guess that raw post stats follow a somewhat similar pattern, though perhaps not as pronounced.

    Hi Maxd,

Interesting to learn about the slowdown of PABs during Nov/Dec/Jan period.

I was wondering why this should be the case. Is it simply because people are turning their attention to the Christmas period and gambling less?

Perhaps also Januarys slower rate of PAB's can be explained by many players who have decided to have a break from gambling as some sort of new years resolution, or simply not gambling because they are paying off Christmas bills.

I would have thought that during the height of summer (particularly in the northern hemisphere where most players on here are from) would be a slower period, with longer days, people out in the sunshine and away on holidays.

Are we talking significant decreases for the Nov/Dec/Jan trend? Or minor % drops that could even out over the course of a decade or so?

Perhaps other members have some theorys of their own to share on this matter?!

    Thanks

    Mike

I don't care where you are. There's always a boobie thread somewhere.

I have a few thoughts on this but keep in mind that they ARE NOT specific to Casinomeister. I've been managing igaming forums for ... seven or eight years I guess and that's what I'm basing this on.

Ok, the cycles: drops in summer and drops around Christmas. Every year, no skips. Cycles seem less pronounced during both boom years and bust years. When folks are doing well, but not crazy-well, the cycles seem the most pronounced. I'm guesstimating.

Magnitude of the drop varies from year to year but I'd estimate it averages around 15%, give or take. Some years 10%-ish, others 20%-ish. The surges and drops in PAB action are significantly more pronounced.

Reasons: who knows for sure but my guess is that folks have other things to do at those times of year.

For all the talk of how how 'nasty' gambling is and how it 'erodes family values' it sure seems a strange coincidence that gamblers have other non-gambling things to do at exactly the times of year that their families are likely to be available for some quality time. Go figure.
