Visitor Messaging Turned Off

Just a heads up that I'll be turning off the Visitor Messaging that is in your user profile. The reason for this is that it's too easy to confuse this with PMs (private messages) and there are a number of other ways to correspond with one another here in the forum - either private or semi-private:

PMs
Email options
Bloggs
User Social Groups

As it stands, the Visitor Messaging is too redundant and is generally a stupid idea.

If you want to save any messages, now is the time to do it.

How about just having a warning on that particular page, stating that messages posted here are NOT private.

The Visitor messaging thing has generated quite a number of "OMG! Please delete my messages" requests and I don't think a header warning is likely to change that much. Trouble is a fair number of folks go straight to the typing without doing much reading ... and then we're back to doing clean-ups.

FWIW I'm totally with B on this, Visitor Messages are more of a pain than they're worth ... IMHO, of course.

Here i spent half a day, wondering where the freaging button vent.
I tought i had lost it, then it turns out it have been turned off.
Great just great now i have to find a new key. i beat it will take me several months to find a good key.

Well just to suggets a popup screen with a big warning text, if you post a message. If it's gonna be reinstated.

Man, I was really digging the message section of our Home Page, that's what made our Home Pages personalized to the Social Forum networking aspect of the way this place had been enhanced...put our messages back up please and for the dummys in the room just fix a popup for them or a message warning stating that it is not private and the ones of us that do understand how it all works, well we can just turn the popup off...

Damn, give us this cool stuff and then just take it away all of a sudden and I was just on the other day and didn't see this thread and now all of my saved messages are just gone...

You know this really takes away from visiting everyones personalized page, this page messaging had been very useful and had also brought a lot of us closer to our friends and contacts here...why was this so sudden ??

Seriously, what was the point? Someone was getting visitor message alerts confused with PM alerts? If that IS the case, fix one person but don't take fun stuff away from everybody.
