Seriously, what was the point? Someone was getting visitor message alerts confused with PM alerts? If that IS the case, fix one person but don't take fun stuff away from everybody.

But don't you find it redundant? There are the Social Groups, Bloggs, and PMs to use. The Visitor Messages just seem to be clutter and can be confused with Private Messaging. There is no easy fix like pop-up warnings - but I can look into this

If you can convince me to turn them back on, I will. I'm just not convinced yet

No, it's not redundant, because that was one of the very features that helped make our Home Pages personalized and the messages left there for our friends were seen quickly as soon as we logged on and they would not have to be searched out thru a social group or addressed to several members thru a private mail if there were several friends that you wanted to share the message with.

Maybe there could just be a simple script message on everyones page stating that messages left here are not private...we could also post links there for all of our friends to see or also just go to one of our friends home page and catch up with their happenings thru messaging there with several friends.

Let me look into some scripting issue - my main concern is to ensure people know that this is not PMing. If members feel that this service has value, then I'll see what I can do.

In the meantime, please peruse the new blogging function. Perhaps this might meet your needs. And I'll look into the Visitor Messaging thing.

I've turned the Visitor Messaging back on and renamed it to "Public Guestbook". Hopefully members will see this and understand that "Public" means public
