Question about the "thanking" post

Here is your post....

Quote:
THANKING MEMBERS

Just so you know, the option to "Thank" members is set up to enable everyone to "Thank" someone for a informative and/or helpful post. Some people are using this as an "I Agree" button. Sorry - that's not its intention. It is an incentive to encourage members to post quality posts - it is not to be used for every post you agree with - this dilutes its meaning and purpose.

Please do not abuse or use this tool other than for what it is intended for. I know this is subjective, but please try not to overuse this tool. If I feel you are you're thanking people too much, I'll be be relooking at some of these posts and removing the "Thanks".

I'm confused about why this came up? If it's none of my business I understand.

On the "agree" button part, sometimes another poster said the exact same thing you wanted to say, but you still wanted to state your opinion or give your 2 cents, so you thank that person. Maybe some people are shy about posting and feel more comfortable just saying thank you.

I don't know how to quite word this without sounding rude, that is NOT my intention but....what is the big deal about "thanking people too much"?

For myself, I cannot post quality posts about online gambling too much, I am just not informed as others. I give my opinion on many things, but they certainly are not quality posts in my mind, compaired to some of the intelligent members who have been online gambling for many more years than myself, or who run their own websites.

Maybe I missed something somewhere, if I did please forgive me. I just found this thread strange.

Again NOT meaning to sound rude, but why bother?

Of course it's your business, you are a member here and we have an open door policy at Casinomeister

Simply put, the "thanks" button is sometimes overused a bit. I just wanted members to keep this in check because it can be a very useful tool. Like I said, it's very subjective - but when there is a thread where someone says the sky is blue, or I like slots - and they are bestowed with thanks, this dilutes the effect of thanking someone. There is a difference between thanking someone for contributing to the forum with helpful/useful information and agreeing. Maybe I should have an "I agree" button instead.

I don't really mind it being used as an "I agree" button, just so it's used with restraint.

I'm always open for ideas as well.

How about no rep points given for the thanks but only added to the total number of thanks received at the top. Rep points can then only be scored by clicking on the scales and which are much harder to toss all round as you have to spread some rep to others before giving it to the same person again. Furthermore, one might not necessarily choose to give the max rep pts (indicated in rep power) to others if there are say 3 boxes to check eg 3 pts, 5 pts, max reps. Too much hard work Bryan? Sorry about that.

Several ways to do this.
1. Give out a certain thank credits each months, this way people will not hand out thx. Example 20 thx credits per month = 20 thx When they out, they are out.

2. Each post will give 1 thx creadit. So the more post the more credits.
Each user will receive 4 thx creadits each month.
If a user sayes thx in a post the thx credit is transfered to the user that was thxed. In this way we will have a type of economical thx credits. (referal signup to new users gives 5 thx credits, wow thx casino referal bonus :-) )

3. Leave it as it is. To much work to do the others in this list, go have a beer instead.

4. rep based, if i give away one thx credit i will loose one rep point.

And if didnt keep you busy, you would probably be on the Bahamas drinking beer and having fun, and we cant allow that :-) Couse if we cant then you cant, now back to work... :-)

Satchmo the man the myth the man who slings idea's.

i think you could have a thumbs up/thumbs down kind of button. At the top of the post or at the bottom have to buttons that you can click, one a little hand giving a thumb up, one a little hand giving a thumb down. then have a number at the side e.g

(thumbs up image) 5 (thumbs down image) 1

to show that 5 people agreed with the post and 1 didn't. i think this is implemented for comments on youtube video's. it will allow people to say if they agree or not and the thanks button can just be left for informative posts.
