About "You have a right to your opinion"...

This is in no way any criticism of the forum or the forum rules.
We have the freedom of expression here, within certain rules.

At Casinomeister, we recognize freedom of expression as the foundation of any good forum; language can be a powerful tool. But with great power comes great responsibility (sound familiar?). We welcome opinions from every viewpoint and encourage debate, but we draw the line at flaming or being troll-like
Due to recent arguments, there's one specific line of argumentation I would like to bring to attention and that is "You have the right to your opinion, I guess.
When someone says you're entitled/have the right to your opinion, it can simply be a statement, but it may also infer other meanings depending on the context.

But when someone says "You have a right to your opinion, I guess, to me that infers something completely different if the poster is a native english speaker. A reference to the freedom of speech with an added question mark. I do not appreciate that.
There are many ways in which comments can border the line to f x flaming or being troll-like, but this is one I don't find acceptable.

Now I got that out of my system. What do you think fellow members?

I must admit that I did not see any point in your post. But it's probably me who's a little dumb today

I can sort of see what the OP's talking about, but I think it's just semantics. Personally, if someone says to me, "Well, you have the right to your opinion..." I can sense the "...even though it's completely stupid." tacked on to the end whether they add "I guess" or not.

    But that's just me.

I strongly doubt that you're dumb any day Or was there something else inferrered there too.
You know, I may be reading in things that aren't there, with reference to my post. I manage english pretty well, but I also lack "sociolinguistic skills", basically I can sometimes misinterpret some phrases. That's the reason why I explicitly asked for feedback.
    Thanks for yours

Possibly it's not just lack of some linguistic skills, it can also be "career damage" on my part, since I've done a lot of text analysis in my life.
    Thanks for your feedback

I did understand your post, and what you meant. But as I said, did not see any points.

but it is probably because I see the "I guess" expression as a bad habit. I can not see it as a question mark. Just something people add automatically when they disagree or feel insecure

When people say "well..I guess I`m wrong". They really mean "go f**k yourself, no way I`m wrong".

Ok, I think I'm beginning to see a pattern here.
I will not refrain from my opinion just yet, but I'm well on the way
Guess i was overanalyzing it and being a bit too emotional about it.
"You have the right to your opionion, I guess" is simply one of the countless ways you can tell someone you don't agree and/or think they're stupid without being explicitly flaming.
    I can live with that.

This is a topic I have encountered b4.
The right to freedom of speech.

The problem is that speech can be harmful.
Slander is a step away from spitting in someones face or slapping them.
It's abuse alright. And it should not be viewed any differently to physical abuse.

Rights go hand in hand with responsibility.

Sure, we can say whatever we like....but we have to then take responsibility for whatever happens as a result. We also have to accept that there may be others who don't agree and these people will challenge our views and expect us to back up our words with some kind of evidence etc - lest our opinion be considered less credible.

It's a bit like saying "casino x is rigged"...which is fine, as everyone is entitled to their view. However, if one cannot provide any kind of proof to back up that opinion, then one should expect to have their opinion considered less credible by those who have evidence to the contrary. Imagine saying to someone in a group setting "you're an a-hole", and when challenged as to why you hold that view you reply "because I just do". You've had your say, but you've probably just lost a lot of credibility in the eyes of many in that group.

@slotaddict....I'm not sure if u were trying to be funny but I thought your remarks towards Emme were ill-considered.
