Personally I detest auto-responders but if it's something folks really want ....

I totally agree with you Max I hate those auto replies, I would rather wait until you sent a reply IMO

A status might be better. Whatever the status shows, its presence alone confirms the PAB is "in the system" rather than having been lost by an internet glitch.

I have often had problems with my posts. I hit "submit", but the forum never replies with a refreshed page showing my reply in the thread. The ONLY way I can find out whether my reply got received by the server is to check it's status by viewing the thread. Without this, I would assume it lost, and might resubmit it. I have noticed that sometimes duplicate posts appear on a thread, so it seems others get this problem, and think they didn't post when they actually did, so try again.
