All these companies offering free flights should definitely re-word their offers. Airport taxes and security charges are generally much higher than the actual fare.
Take this for an example:
Source: www.ba.com - 22 August 2008 07:50hrs
25SEP08 HEATHROW to LOS ANGELES / BA0283
16OCT08 LOS ANGELESM to HEATHROW / BA0282
Price: £46.00 + (and it's a BIG plus) £312.50 AIRPORT TAXES
Don't EVER fall for these free flight offers. They are a joke, unless taxes and securities are included.
I have just tried UK to Australia, and the "extras" come to HALF the total price - this does NOT get them off the hook, as one Australian player claimed that the charges alone through this offer came to more than the TOTAL FARE bookable directly through an airline website, whereas these examples suggest charges should be no more than HALF the total charge for the flights, so if a player is quoted $1500 directly, they should pay around half this by using this offer, so it looks like other charges are being created in order to deter Australians from flying to the USA. WE have already been told that the US charges minimal airport fees, and the largest single charge seems to be the FUEL surcharge, which is probably the "trick" that TLC are using - adding the fuel surcharge, but only after DOUBLING it first.
