To be honest, when I've discored Twitter something like a year ago, I thought "Just another Myspace-like crap for degenerated teenagers".
Sorry for the teenagers but your brain is just not fully developed and so it's easy to sell you crap for the price of gold.
In the begining, Twitter was a place where you could oftenly read "I've been down the street.....I've came back....I forgot to bought myself some peanuts...etc".
It has changed a lot since smart people discovered that microbloging (message less than 140 caracters) could be very interesting in terms of social interaction.
Most of the people use Twitter with 2 purposes:

1/ Follow the news twitted by gourous or early adopters like a personal RSS feed 2.0.
For example I would recommand to follow people like: Link Removed (Invalid) , Link Removed (Invalid).

Just open an account, follow these people for 3 or 4 days and see what they twitt.
Then, you can start twitting yourself.
At this moment, you'll provide content, people will start following you and your primary goal which was to know what the gourous say will change.

2/ You will keep informed your followers, providing them useful information you got through the people you are following yourself and sometimes you will even retwitt (aka RT@thenameoftheoriginal poster) an information.
But maybe you will also put some personal "events" like your new website coming live, your new promo, the fact you are seeking a job, wathever you think that will help you if as many people as you can reach get the info.
This is the powerful part of Twitter because not only it helps keeping you informed but it allows you to promote yourself.
No more explanation for now, just go on Twitter and open an account.
Here are some articles which will help you:

Link Removed (Invalid) Twitip is a very good website to discover Twitter

Last but not least, people like Link Removed (Invalid) , Link Removed (Invalid) , Link Removed (Invalid) , Link Removed (Invalid) , Link Removed (Invalid) and even the Link Removed (Invalid) himself have a Twitter account.

If you prefer the Hollywood glamorous people, here they are: Link Removed (Invalid) , Link Removed (Invalid) , Link Removed (Invalid) and Link Removed (Invalid)

You'll find me Link Removed (Invalid) .
I've also created 3 discussion groups in Twibes Casino, Poker and Art Deco

Watch this 6 minutes video which will help you to find the proper tools to use Twitter:

And what exactly does this have to do with "Online Casinos"

You're right RobWin, maybe this is not the most appropriate place.
There is another Twitter thread in the webmaster section but I wanted to make this one accessible for everyone as I've tried to compile useful ressources.
Bryan, Ian or Max, feel free to move it to the appropriate place and please accept my apologies for the mistake.

Gotta say, watch out for the celebrity follows on Twitter. Some bug in their system makes it almost impossible to unfollow some of those folks. Ashton Kutcher (sp?) is one of them, do a twitter search on 'aplusk' and you'll see what I mean.

ok who is Ian ???

thanks

I think that all avenues of free promoting your site are valuable for webmasters, and the younger generation (under 25) is strongly moving in that direction.

My friends are old, and I am not a webmaster, so of no interest to me. But under 25 in a fast growing market in the online world.

As long as you don't forget there are older clientele, with more established careers, less time and more deposible income.

Twitter is a lot like sex.. If you do not learn how to do it right, it may be painful and boring for everyone. :p

I have some articles about how not to annoy your followers, how to get more followers, and how to not be a twitter twit on my site in the comments and suggestions section.

Twitter is a lot like life... you get out what you put in.

The comment about following celebs is misleading. Sometimes twitter has
tech issues because they are growing too fast. You can unfollow
who you want most of the time.. but celebs are boring except Shaq.. follow
tweeps trying to entertain you.. not entertainers.

Many of us are still trying to wrap our heads around this Twitter thing.

Picked up tweetermeister.com today. :p

I'm also looking into implementing Tweeter into the forum.

Twitter is funny Mr. Meister. Do it right and you will be the newest #twaholic on the block... this will help:

Don't be a Twitter Twit!

Yes, link to my site... hard for me to share secrets, but this is my
apology for spelling your name wrong. If you don't want the link here, your loss...

Sorry you found it misleading but regardless of the reason I promise you that the celebrity 'tech issue' is not a trivial thing.

For instance, my wife make the mistake of following Ashton Kutcher or whateverthef#$% his name is for his 1M followers thing. When it was done she unfollowed him .. didn't work! She contacted Twitter CS .. no response. She tried every hack she could find on how to solve this .. didn't work! Now she sees that she is auto-magically signed up to him and unsigned up several times a day. And this has been going on for almost a week!

The problem is that the guy is a knob and his copious tweets are drivel. So her pages are filled with this wankers garbage and there is nothing she can do about it. WTF?!? So far the only thing that is promised to fix this thing for good is to abandon your account and start another. That's a 'fix'? That's not a minor 'tech issue', that is seriously not having your shit together!

So no, I don't think the warning about celebs was misleading at all. That said your advice to follow those who entertain instead of following entertainers is spot on!

Gear down big shifter. No need to curse. I was not attacking you.. just trying to help.

The same thing happened to me with Ashton and
it auto unfollowed him the next day.

This is why I lurked for a year. Not everything has to be a fight. We can all help each other politely.

Good bye for another year

:what: Was it something I said?

Yes. :D You are a mod.. treat everyone like you treat your Grandmother.

I find it hard to complain about cool things that are free.

Next- use this and you will not have problems following or unfollowing regardless of fail whale issues:

Anyway I doubt many meisters can talk in 140 characters, so probably not for you.

Don't get me started on this Twitter. This is just another internet hype like Ebay, Facebook, Google, Friends Reunited and the rest. The people that create them make fortunes. A few people will make a healthy living and the rest of us will end up working for them for free.

Are the owners of this site planning an IPO anytime soon? What annoys me is that they have reached the tipping point where suddenly it is almost embarassing if you are not on it. In the last few weeks I have seen numerous companies scrambling to get on Twitter because they feel they can't afford not to. This herd mentality only gives them more oxygen and propels it further.

Clearly it must be a very good product to have achieved this huge status. All I know is that Ebay was brilliant when it started but within a few years they became a faceless organisation with a rapacious profit motive. Google has become dangerous too. Now this one has come along and we all have to open a Twitter account or we will instantly become socially excluded.

I don't think the joy that is the internet is to be found in these mega popular sites.

Yes. :D You are a mod..

Ok, I'm still

I was crumbing about Twitter fails and ... you thought I was taking a nip at you? Not sure how that works.

Anyway my grandmother gave me great advice about sex and not getting caught if I did bad things so I'm not sure your advice translates quite the way you'd want it to.

PS. thanks for the Karma suggestion but that didn't do it either: the Kutcher guy is not even listed but his posts do appear on her pages. Go figure.

I don't think the joy that is the internet is to be found in these mega popular sites.

Bravo DG! Couldn't have said it better myself.

FWIW, I don't think Twitter is a 'great product' at all, but I do think they've touched a collective nerve and that's what makes it the wildfire thing it is. But 'great product' it ain't: buggy as an MS app on opening day.

Yes maxd.. all I saw was "get your sh*t together.
I took it like you would take it if I said that about Mr. Meister.

About all the twitter haters: you do not understand. The value of twitter goes beyond social interaction. It is a business tool and a personal tool and so much more, but you will only get out of it what you put in.

Just do me a favor and keep thinking it is not worth it.

Anyway "those who do not understand your silence are unlikely to understand your words".

Tweet you later. @noluckneeded

Once people figure out what to do with it, it could be good.

But already it's abused by spammers and bloggers blogging their daily crap about making a kagillion $$ off of some get rich quick scheme. <yawn>

There are possibilities, but it's not clear yet.

Just like there are possibilities with tweetermeister.com (cool name, eh?) I just don't know what to do with it yet.

Sort of like crapbonuses.com... :p

Ok .. but perhaps that means you misread what I said, no?

Whatever, I sense that you're keen on withdrawing from the field so let's leave it at that.

And FWIW -- not to you personally but .. in general -- I find the whole "great networking, promo, whatever" argument about Twitter totally unconvincing. All the business related stuff on Twitter just looks like spammy rubbish to me. There are exceedingly few business-related tweeters that seem to be worth the time of day never mind serious attention.

Does that mean we all "don't get it"? Ok maybe, but sometimes one fails to hear 'the music' because there is no music. If it works for you, that's fab, fill your boots, but that maybe means we're into something different than you, not that we're thickies and "just don't get it".

I do see my wife gets some social buzz off of Twitter, partly 'cause she's into some esoteric stuff and that's a good way to find fellow aficionados, but that's a whole different thing.

The more you love yourself, the harder it will get to hate and complain about anything.

Right, like I said, maybe you misread what's being said here.

 Have a better one!

I respect how much work you guys do, especially Mr. Meister
so decided to give you the clue, but I will not spell it out for you.. ok I will:

G-O-O-G-L-E

Now if you can not figure out what I mean by that and you have a website,
find a new occupation today!

Good Luck, but you should not need it if you get it.
