The old forum version kept rep points private for the member only to see. Now, it has hit me that it is public and anyone can see it. I think some members don't like that, especially if they get a neg rep point.

I don't care either way, but I do think it probably should be private, so the member is not shamed when someone visits their profile.

Can that page be made private on the new forum version?

Thanks, Bryan.

I just today realized I had a negative rep. in my profile.

I thought it was a good idea being in the open, since you could click onto the post that's getting the neg., and let others read and determine on their own if it was deserved.

I guess you would first have to find someone that really cares. I really don't see anyone doing this type of search in the first place. Up until today I didn't even know about it, although heard it mentioned here and there in the past.

Everyone is different, 4oak. I recently had the nerve to neg rep someone. She made a big deal about it and got upset. That made me think about it. Some are just more sensitive than others.

Would I not have done it if I realized they were viewable by the public? Probably would have thought harder about it.

If I remember correctly, you gave neg reps when you didn't want to post on the forum. That made me think it was to not shame someone publicly just give your opinion to them.

Damn, you are quick!

I don't know how else to describe it. Years ago, if someone was not being nice but you didn't think it was a big enough deal to post publicly, you neg rapped him privately. That was the old forum anchor dealie on the top right side of a post. It could give or take points away from your reputation here. At least that is what someone told me years ago. Could be wrong.

I guess it is not a big deal, but...........it might be to some others.

I've gotten them once or twice, pretty much forgot what I had said to get one from somebody. It is not important to me, might be to others. That's what I'm just saying. :)

Got it...thanks...

Think I drifted for a moment. I actually thought you meant me when you said "you gave"

Maybe I wasn't a member when that earlier option was available, or just didn't know about it.

I also understand your view, but for me still prefer my view.

It's not only neg reputation comments that show, its positive rep comments too. So if you want to fly under the radar and not publicly thank a post, that will be shown too.

Pretty sure any post I found so offensive as to neg rep it, I felt it necessary to report it as well.

I'm never ashamed of my opinions... I like it being public.

Just because I'd like to pick a fight with you Jod, lol.

Good question but B is the man to be answering it. I've flagged him on it.

Hi All,

I didn't know that the new version displayed this for everyone. I've been messing with this this morning, and I can tweak it a little.

I can set this where members can turn this off so no one (including yourself) can see the rep points. I can also set it where people can see the points, but they can't see who repped you.

Still looking into this.

I think that the reputation page should be visible for the profile owner (and others). I often use the "add to this users reputation" feature together with a positive comment instead of just "thanking" people.

What u do with those points anyway? It's not like you can exchange them for cash or anything. :p

lol, but what a GREAT idea! I'd like to cash in my rep points please.

good point - if the rep isn't visible to the page owner then they couldn't see the comment (or :)) either. And theoretically someone could neg rep you and you wouldn't know why - or even who, right?

Yes, thats right

The way it's set up now - users can see their own reputation comments and points, users can see other's reps but not who left the comments/points. Senior members and above can turn this off in their user profile and hide their reputation from everyone (including themselves).

Any further suggestions, please let me know.

Yes, that sounds like a good arrangement :)

(it is still unvisible)

Now why would a person who's been thanked at least 4 bazillion times want to hide their reputation.... LOL

Thats true. My favorite hobby is to go to my reputation site and look at all my "thanks" :p

But I must probably find a new hobby now that it has been removed :p

Okay - this is what I've done:

The reputation is a separate tab in you user profile. Anyone can see this, and if you don't like it, just turn it off in your "settings" under "General Settings".

If you turn it off, you can still see your own reps being added (or deleted) in your "settings" area. That is private for you.

Meister members and above can see who left what rep in other member's profiles (if that member has their "view reputation" turned on).

Sound cool?

Now we need to have a group brainstorm on what to do with all the points :p

We've had tournaments in the past for members with x amount points - but it's been a while since something like this has been organized.
