Strange PM....

Wasn't sure where to put this....?

Logged on today and had a PM from a user.... Answered and he seems to be trying to get me to log on to MSN for some unknown reason...Also states that he wants to make trouble for Spin Palace!

Seems like he is harvesting email addresses? Not sure though?

Got me concerned enough to bring it to the attention of the powers that be around here though!

Good of you to take the time to report this. Certainly does sound pretty hinkey. Since you've done the "Report Post" thing I reckon Bryan will do the necessary when he sees it.

Several months ago, I got approached by a member here which kinda went the same way as your email. I can't remember the pud's name but he is banned here now. He's the one that he played with his mother's cc and then the casino would pay him.

Anyway, sounds a whole lot like the same guy. He had me live message him too.

Thanks for bringing this up. At this point, he can only use the PM with moderators, admins, and his contacts.

If members get PMs that they find odd or makes them feel uncomfortable, please contact the mods or me.

Also, if you check out the "Settings" tab next to the "My Profile" tab (up above on the right where you log in <gasp!> it's Beer o'clock!), you will see "general Settings" - go to "Messaging & Notification" and under Private messaging you'll see "Receive Messages Only from Contacts and Moderators" - select that and you will only receive PMs from mods and people on your contact list.

I also contacted Bryan some weeks ago. Got a strange PM from a guy, so I forwared it to Bryan.

It was from an active member on this board. I had never "talked" to him before, but he sent me a looong PM about some neighbor of him who was from Norway. This neighbor was old and his credit card was "stolen" by a girlfriend or something....and blablabla. I did not understand much. But I got a "nigerian-fraud" feeling.

If a member choses that option, does the sender get some kind of notification? Or do you see it before you even PM?

If you try to PM a member who disallows or isn't allowed to PM, you'll only see that message when you hit "send".

very interesting, because ever since i signed up for these forums I've been receiving many emails that are of the nigerian scam type, like western union 1 million dollar award to be transfered to you after you pay to release the funds, and all sorts of crap like that.

Silly me i was allowing people to view my email address, I just changed that setting now.

But yea this must be a hot spot for nigerian scam artist and the likes. No offense to the meister as there is nothing he can do to keep these people from fishing for email addresses.

just dont give out your email and dont allow users to view it, not that i would think anybody would fall for one of these scams anymore, but you never know.
