Cannot upload my own avitar?

Hi,
I was just wondering why when I upload my own avitar I get an error that says I cannot upload an avitar?

The maximum size of your custom image is 50 by 50 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).

Open it with Paint and crop it to be sure it's a perfect square.
Then under the 'image' menu select 'attributes' and resize the image down to 50x50.
Save it and then upload.
