On a side topic, is anyone else thinking that in gerneral, the standard of football in this world cup so far is very poor. 25 games in and hardly a free kick on target, not one goal, sums it up. The number of corners that dont clear the first man - or clear them all - the number of overhit and misjudged passes and the amount of bruised punters in Row Z.

I'm sure this new ball is aerodynamically spot on, but as anyone who's played will know, you need to get to used to new balls or boots and it looks like most are struggling to get it's measure. Own goal by FIFA imo.

That aside though, England are pretty average, always have been and always will be. The press just like to build them up into something they aren't so they can knock them down again and sell more papers. Papers like the Daily Mail have proved they have no patriotsm recently anyway by trying to sabotage the 2018 bid "in the public interest". It's all about shifting units at the expense of anyone.

EDIT: and as I write, Sneider seems to have got the measure of the ball LOL.

Not sure if it's the ball, but there have certainly been some surprises. Who would have thought Germany would lose to Serbia, or that the US could come back from a 2 goal deficit against Slovenia in the second half?

and Spain's 1-0 loss to the Swiss is considered the biggest upset to date.

Yeah and let's just say that European teams have played far below expectations ..... France, Italy, England, Spain. Even the Netherlands, who have won both matches to date, sort of won ugly against Japan.

Growing consternation over the quality of refereeing, too, from what I can see. FIFA holding an efficiency review on the one guy.
