I've never had any success with blackjack at MG casinos. The best I've ever done with blackjack has been at BoDog.

I assume you mean why give up a natural straight to go after a royal flush.

"Simple strategy", on the Wiz's site for Jacks or Better (I know the poster was playing Tens or Better, but can't find a strategy for that) does indeed list "4 to a royal flush" as a higher kept hand than a "straight".
