Question Boss Media Software - Opinions?

    Hey guys

Just wondered what other people's opinion of Boss Media software is these days. I always had it marked down as good for table games but not for slots but was recently in a conversation with an operator who is considering using it and just wondered what the general consensus was. Does it appeal?

It would be useful to get some opinions together so I can point them at this thread.

    Cheers,

    Simmo!

PS. Even if you don't play Boss Media and have thoughts (maybe as to why not) I'd still be interested in hearing why.

Do they have "true" video slots

The biggest question about their slots from the player perspective is whether they are "true" ones or weighted. There are a few factors which make me think that at least a subset of their slot range consists of weighted slots. I know at least one slot which is clearly weighted, and there are some strange patterns with other slots, but I did not have the time to verify my findings. If I remember correctly also Zoozie wrote me at least once that he also thinks that BM slots are weighted. As a player I do not have confidence in weighted slots.
Just to re-cap, true video slots have reel strips, each individual symbol on the trip has an equal probability to land, weighted slots might also have a reel strip, but not all stop positions are equally likely.

    They software is potentially good, but actually very poor - especially in the slots department;
Although they have added a LOT of new slots recently, they are mostly just clones of each other and pretty boring to play.
By far the WORST thing is many of their slots have a feature which you have to collect "credits" for before it triggers, but if you exit the game all your credits are lost! How they justify that is totally beyond me - how do they guarantee to achieve their RTP..?

I used to play their casinos quite a lot - back in the days when Bet365 were on that platform - and they had a ridiculous "time-out" feature on their card games, even if you weren't playing a multi-player table...! That cost me a LOT of money a few times, most notably when I had a big win on Stud Poker, paused to take a screen-shot before hitting "raise" and the fricking thing timed out & folded my bet!
I think they have got rid of the timer now though.

They do have some good features, but if I was choosing a software to open my own casino with, Boss Media would be a very long way down MY list...

No, the timer in Caribbean stud is still there at least in Casino-Club. I recently had a straight dealt to me but the cards weren't ordered by rank and there was no message on the screen that I had a straight so it took me a while to visually verify that I actually did have a straight but just when I was about to press Raise, I ran out of time and the hand was folded. The only good thing about it was that dealer didn't qualify anyway, but it still cost me 50€ on 25€ ante.

I always found Boss Media table games and especially Blackjack extremely fair, unlike rigged Microgaming crap. So if you prefer table games Boss Media would be one of the top choices to play, apart from the timer issue.

Always did well on the BJ at Boss sites and it was the only software where I woud play Carribean Stud but the VP payoffs were often low compared to full payoff tables.

    Can't comment on the slots.
    cheers

    Boss

    Hi Simmo,

I ran a casino a few years ago and we changed from chartwell *totally useless, software, support and switched to Boss. The back end reporting is highly functional, and they now have tournaments and probably the highest jackpots available on slots. We had no complaints from game play

I met them in Sweden, nice people and I recommend them!!

They offer customer support in most languages / a good option out there, far better than others on offer.

    Regards,

    Dazza

Well, all they can guarantee is that you will get a LOWER RTP if you like to switch between games. This feature FORCES the player to "chase" the slot to get the feature. This goes against "responsible gambling". A few UK fruit machines had visible "pots" of nudges that players could "chase" higher in the hope of a larger win being possible with more nudges. The gambling board BANNED this feature at about the time it allowed the 20p stake. They made it clear that any feature that "encouraged chasing" like this was banned. Boss Media really should NOT be offering a feature that more or less "bullies" players into carrying on to make it to the feature, or else risk losing all the credits earned so far.

The main problem with this timer is that this is the INTERNET, and cannot be guaranteed to hold a steady connection. Boss software seems highly intolerant of what users suffer from the internet on a daily basis. Even where a session stays connected, it can often go slow for no reason, and it seems Boss players lose out EVERY time.

The feature that folds a bet that CLEARLY should be raised is pretty rogue, it should at least complete the game using "basic strategy", and in the above case, should afford the player enough time to come to a decision about whether to raise or fold.

I have played earlier versions of Boss, and found the slots to be "crap" compared to MGS, but Blackjack was pretty good, even if it seemed to deal me a 10 card on a hard 12 far too often, something which curiously didn't seem to happen to the dealer anywhere near as often.

I gave Boss up when I found how much better MGS games were.

The one thing Boss DID have at the time was a kind of "clearplay" system where it was easy to ensure you didn't withdraw before WR had been completed on a bonus. The software also seemed to allow winnings to be withdrawn at any time, even when the bonus was still held to a WR.

Boss has also thrown out all Canadians, something to consider if you are an operator, as this narrows your potential market.

That was one of my reservations as it happens.

I just had to say something about this. In a slot, I don't see why it's a problem or why a casino should ever put a timer on a player at all. That sounds pretty fake to me. I mean, it's not like they need the seat free. If the guy's disconnected he should get at least a few minutes to get back online and decide if he wants to raise or not. But in a game where there has to be a timer, like multiplayer games, poker, etc. you can't just go betting perfect strategy for people out of their own money when they get disconnected. That just opens you up to every kind of complaint in the world. Responsible casinos should do the best thing possible for a player under disconnection that doesn't involve betting anything for them.

The thing is, if you get in the business of playing perfect strategy for a player in one game, you're setting a bad precedent, and players are gonna ask why you didn't double down for them when they got disconnected with a 7-4 in blackjack. So I don't think they should solve it positively. I think they need to be able to suspend playing sessions up to a certain length of time -- bare minimum a few minutes -- on any kind of single player game. Otherwise, who knows but that they're disconnecting you on purpose.

6-8 years ago Boss Media was competitive with the major software providers in most aspects, but it seems that since then, nothing much has happended. While other software providers have improved the amount, variety and overall quality of their games, Boss Media have not. When I first started playing Boss Media was among my favorites, but today I would recommend play at casinos with Microgaming or Cryptologic software instead of Boss Media.
