    Online blackjack - basic strategy?

Just wondered what people's thoughts were on whether basic strategy is really the way to go on online blackjack. Too often by adhering to the rules and hitting on 12 - 16 against a 10 I find myself losing the hand. thoughts please? Same goes for splitting pairs.

I know exactly what you mean!
However, best strategy is worked out mathematically and in the long run WILL give you the smallest losses - takes all the fun out of it though, doesn't it!

Well it begs the question if online BJ is actually SlotJack... I think many members here will state that the BJ games are in fact Slot games with cards. Your strategy is null and void if this proves true.

Well, for the sake of arguement lets assume online BJ is dealing a fair game. Call me an ass and I may agree!

Some situations in BJ have negative expectations whereby you are expected to lose. This is the case when the Dealer's upcard is a 10 against a Player's hard hand of 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16*.

In these specific situations contrary to many player's thoughts playing the optimal basic strategy does not create a positive expectation (winning situation) or even a break even expectation (16 is close though). In these specific situations by playing the optimal basic strategy move of always hitting against the Dealer's 10 (16 is a close call especially if your 16 consists of a 4 or 5) you are taking a situation whereby you are always expected to lose but are going to lose less by playing the optimal basic strategy of hitting or if late surrender is offered always surrender a hard two card 16 (except a pair of 8's which should be split) against the dealer's upcard of 10. Surrending could also apply to a hard two card 15 against the dealer's upcard of 10 under certain rules, etc. Do not hit or ignore optimal basic strategy and you will without doubt lose even more over time.

A few optimal basic strategy splits (not most by any means and dependent on rules, decks, etc) are exactly the same as above whereby playing the optimal basic strategy of spliting, a losing expectation remains a losing expectation but less will be loss over time.

I really do believe that we're really playing "Slotjack"
instead of blackjack in most online casinos.

If I wanna play blackjack, I made it a commitment to
only play at B&M casinos and not online. I will only
    play slots online.

Case and point my video below of how volatile
3Dice blackjack can be. I'm not picking on 3Dice, just
demonstrating how with basic rules induced blackjack,
sometimes online casinos become "The Matrix" and bend the
    laws of blackjack probability.

Even though I am pretty sure no casino software deals a 'real' game of blackjack....I still for the most part use basic strategy.

The only exception is that I don't double alot of hands that i normally would in a B&M...as I try to limit my losses especially if the dealer is on kill mode (such as doubling on soft hands vs. dealer 6, etc..)

It's just a shame that at online casinos you can't follow my B&M strategy - which is to get drunk and shout loudly at the cards. Works every time!

There is a thread somewhere on here about this same thing...basic strategy vs improvised strategy...I think many decided basic will kill you in the long run...for short term...I have always improvised, never used basic..and have increased my playtime 3 fold doing this after many years playing online..basic strategy IMO does not work online.
