Virgin Casino - Again with no canadians

    Just got this email...

Due to recent changes in Canadian regulation regarding online gaming, we regret to inform you that Virgin Games will be closing all Canadian held accounts as of September 24th, 2010. After this date you will no longer be able to access your Virgin Games account.
What recent changes in Canadian regulation???

Edit: Did some more research, they have closed some loopholes that allow Organized Crime units IN Canada to get away with crooked gambling houses, HOWEVER the general consensus from everything I have read is that Canadians are still freely permitted to gamble online on overseas platforms all they like. I think this pull out by Virgin is premature by a long shot. But I bet Rival is going to have to relocate or shut down if they are not on a reserve.

Complete and utter nonsense yet again by Virgin, however you can bet your bottom dollar that the government will find away to f**k us over now that they are in the game so to speak, just look at the HST, Christ I just built a new house and between HST and transfer tax I had to shell out $59952 on a 700k house.

I don't think the gov will ever go after overseas online gambling, that would simply cost too much, that is why their way to fight back is implementing government based competing services, unfortunately so far what I see is very sloppily put together and has had no research into what players really want invested.

In terms of taxing gambling proceeds, that would never happen either because then the average taxpayer could claim their losses as well. What a magnificent loop hole that would be.

    <totally off topic>

I certainly hope your house is a mansion in a non-volatile area. Otherwise its an excellent example of the impending crash and the governments efforts to squeeze every last dime out of this bubble that is about to burst. I can't speak for other parts of Canada but I sure know that they have been enormously enjoying the bubble in Vancouver and have been doing everything they can to sustain these ridiculous house prices so they can reap the benefits of extra house taxes.

I must be living in a cave, because I wasn't aware that Canadians were EVER allowed to play at Virgin? I had opened an account there a few years ago, and just went back through my emails...and found this one, dated April 3, 2007:

    Dear Lisa,

We are sorry to inform you that we will be suspending all accounts registered by players from Canada effective from the 13th April 2007. Due to recent developments in the global Internet gaming environment and following a review of the legalities of online gaming within Canada, we have determined that it is inappropriate for us to continue accepting online wagers from Canada.

We will be suspending all Canadian accounts on 13th April 2007 09:00 EST, we ask that you please withdraw any funds before this date and time.

Neteller has also announced that it will cease processing Canadian transactions from 9th April 2007. If you use NETELLER to transact with us you will need to withdraw any remaining funds in your account BEFORE the 9th April 2007.

After the 13th April, you will not be able to login into your account. However, you will be able to initiate a withdrawal of your funds by calling our customer support center at +44 800 458 6003

We appreciate your patronage and apologize for the inconvenience.

    Kind Regards

    Customer Service Team

I had also registered at a couple of other Wagerworks casinos, but have never been allowed to play for Real Money at any of them. I don't believe that Wagerworks have ever allowed Canadians to play....or at least not in the last few years.

Yes at one time all wagerworks allowed Canadians, then the USA screwed it up for everyone Canadians were off Virgins list until they adopted some games from other platforms, IE MG and Intercasino

I played there sometime last month after a rep posted that Canadians were allowed to play again. Unfortunately I could only play the new games from the other platforms.

Personally I think it has more to do with the games offered by the casino that are available in Canadian B&M casinos, so the software license likely prohibits Canadians to play because our great government wants a monopoly on games offered in the casino. And NOTHING to do with Canadian regulation. They just won't come out and say that is what the issue is. I actually emailed support inquiring EXACTLY what laws in Canada prohibit us from playing at Virgin in response to their email, no response no surprise.

    Virgin Casino.

Virgin's rep Virgin Ace, gave me a private e-mail explaining why Canadians were banned from playing some of the games on their website, even though Canadians invest a lot of money into other owned Virgin products, like cell phones.

For any of you who are upset over Virgin's casino operation towards Canadian gamblers, there are other laws involved, that the average gambler wouldn't know about, that industry people would know about.

Contact Virgin Ace on here like I did, and he will help you.He was very polite towards me and answered my questions.
