Verification at 32 Red

I went to verify my account at 32 Red & was asked for a passport which I don't have so I offered my drivers licence. I was told that would not do & was asked for my tax file number. I have given my name, address, birthdate & now they want my tax file number? There is no way known I would give that imformation to anyone over the net, so I guess I won't be playing there. Does anyone besides me see this as a major invasion of privacy?

Tax file number? That just blows my mind...next thing you know casinos will be asking for your first born!
I don't know why casino managers or whoever comes up with these ideas for proof of who you are don't realize that not ALL people have passports!

I don't blame you....I wouldn't give out that info either Cassa. Pat (path here at the forum) is on holiday until Monday, June 15th. But if I were you, I would send him a PM when he returns and ask him to look into this for you. Surely there is something else besides a passport (or private tax info) that will do. I don't have a passport either, never have had one....and no intentions of getting one.

thats really strange when I verified my docs all they wanted was my DL, A bill showing my current address that wasn't more than 3 months old and a front and back copy of the cc i made my first deposit with. I would defenitely wait for pat to come back tax file number is unheard of and i would never give that out either.

Social security is social insurance number here.

Btw, bf was asked for a passport too, driver lic was not good enough.

Tax File Number (TFN) is an 8 or 9 digit number issued by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to each taxpayer (individual, company, superannuation fund, partnership or trust) to identify that taxpayer's Australian tax dealings. When it was introduced in 1988, [1] individuals received a 9 digit TFN and non-individuals were issued an 8 digit TFN. Now both are issued 9 digit TFNs. 10 digit TFNs are expected in the future, but none have yet been issued.

Strict laws ensure tax file numbers may be recorded or used only for specifically authorised tax-related purposes. Not all individuals have a TFN. A business has both an Australian Business Number (ABN) and a tax file number; and if income is earned as part of carrying on its business, it may quote its ABN instead of its TFN.

The TFN serves a purpose similar to the American Social Security number, but its use is strictly limited by law in order to avoid the functionality creep which has affected the US counterpart.

I am shocked that 32Red is asking for it then. For a start, they could NEVER use it to verify you, since the Australian authorities would pick this up as an unauthorised "functionality creep".

Not accepting a driver's license is also very odd, as 32Red are supposed to be the most player friendly casino out there, yet will not accept what is universally accepted elsewhere.

It is not acceptable to have such a narrow requirement as only accepting ONE document, since everybody is different. Admittedly, they have offered to accept the alternative (tax file number), but what good is this to them anyway - they are not permitted under Aussie law to even POSSESS it, let alone interrogate a database to verify it matches the details registered with them.

32Red are probably one of the few casinos that are solid enough to trust with a copy of your passport though, which would be held in Gibraltar, and they may not even keep the actual image, but destroy it once they have verified the details.

Casinos in general MUST realise that whilst they provide an internet based service, the CUSTOMERS live in the REAL world, and it is NOT all that common in many countries for citizens to have a passport just for the sake of having one "because it might be useful", they tend to get them ahead of planned travel abroad, and renew them only if they think they are going to travel abroad again.
Stories on the internet arre increasing about the ever more demanding ID hoops that players are being put through, and they have gone beyond what is practical for many players, with a new application for a passport taking MONTHS to process in some cases, yet casinos say they have to cater for the desire for "immediate gratification" - there is NOTHING immediate about getting a passport to send to a casino, and in all likelihood a player will have long since reversed and played back their winnings before it arrives, as many tales of woe here have testified.

IF ID requirements are this specific, they MUST be spelled out BEFORE deposits are accepted, so players know what they will need to provide if they were to win & make a withdrawal, and can make a decision as to whether they are prepared, or able, to comply before they play.

I was asked for the same thing however they told me a valid Australian Drivers Licence would do when i told them i would not feel comfortable providing a tax file number so i was advised to send a copy of my drivers licence which i did a while ago and i have not had any problems since.

My suggestion is to get back onto customer support and ask them again what you need for verification.If you are still unhappy with their reply or are still insisting a tax file number just ask for the verification email address and speak directly to the team who deals with that as i am sure they would be more able to help you out. Like i said i only needed to send in a Drivers Licence and they were happy with this so i don't see why it wouldn't be the same with you.

They have to ask for ID documents to make sure you are who you say you are so as to prevent fraud and crime in general.I still don't understand why they ask for tax file numbers but i do know they accept other forms of ID.

32Red is a respected online casino and is one of the best in my opinion. Trust me it is worth playing there.

A Tax File Number is indeed an Australian thing which is used so we can pay our taxes, get tax refunds, work etc etc and so we can be identified by the tax office and government however we are told to never give out our tax file number for the purpose of identification.So i think it is similar to the American social security number.
