I tried to follow the link through to get the affiliate id but there is a trojan or something that comes up so please do not follow this link all the way thru. (at least not protected)
Looks like a further escalation in the arms race
This was a great way to extract the affiliate ID and get the miscreants booted from the programme.
It should still be a good method, provided one can dedicate a PC for the purpose of taking chances on the internet, where a trojan or virus would do no real damage other than the minor inconvenience of having to reset the PC.
I am not sure what the intent is here, is this a site linked to from a SPAM campaign, or did it just crop up on a search. Unless this is really the work of a bunch of bored kids, then there is bound to be money involved. The trojan is probably a keylogger, or even something to implant code to turn the PC into part of a botnet. It could, of course, just be another stunt to promote Golden Casino, the US facing version of Golden Palace, of Olympic streaker fame (not to mention paying for a baby to be named after them).
Unfortunately for us, the internet was never designed with human nature in mind, it was designed for scientists. As a consequence, there is little to stop even moderately educated people from creating havoc online, and damaging the reputations of solid companies and respected individuals. Maybe the internet will change as the big companies that act as a gateway for us to find what we want (Google for example) work to impove their systems so that they can tell the difference between genuine content, and the work of clever SEO techniques.
I have heard of one piece of advice for when using Google, and this is to pay less attention to the top 10, as these are more likely to be there through clever SEO rather than relevance, more relevant links being further down the list of searches. How true this is depends on the topics being searched.
