    Betfred

    Hi All,

Just got this email today from them and thought it was very interesting:

" Please be advised that players from Canada will no longer be eligible to receive bonuses in the casino. It is unfortunate that we have had to take this step but this based on severe bonus abuse from the region.

You are still more than welcome to play in the casino and we look forward to seeing you at the tables soon. "

    Kind regards,

    Betfred Casino

This is the first time i have ever heard of severe enough bonus abuse where they stop giving bonuses to everyone in Canada payed at betfred for years and all of a sudden i am excluded.Thought that was a little over the top.

Just though it was interesting that Canada is now starting this crap.

if you contact their rep here on this board, he might look into your account and reinstate you for bonuses if you're a loyal player - it's worth a try.

I hope Ian reads this thread and relays it to management. The bonus-banning for Canadian players is Betfred's decision but they should evaluate their existing customers' play for a certain period say the past 6 months to determine whether they had abused the bonuses they were showered with. If not, they should still send the email in question but should add a sentence stating that their past history sits well with them and the bonus-ban does not apply to them although their play will be periodically reviewed.

For new Canadian customers, you should also give them some peace of mind by telling them that their play will be monitored and they can be eligible for bonuses if they are regular customers after several months of play. With Playtech not accepting US players, the casino can ill afford to lose a portion of its canadian base due to such a blanket decision. Remember, Betfred calls itself the Bonus King so such an act just gives them a slap in the face.

But why do casinos cause all these problems for themselves with these stupid blanket bans. If they've identified that they have advantage players from Canada (say), then they must have identified what that advantage play is. So why don't they rethink their promotions, or maximum bet limits whilst playing for bonuses, in order to eliminate the problem? That way they retain all their customers, continue to attract new ones from all over the world (except those from countries with repressive legislation like the USA & Norway) and don't piss everyone off.

    My sentiments EXACTLY!
If casinos don't want players to 'abuse' their bonuses - why don't they make them un-abusable???
It's not rocket science, really it's not.

Just thought I'd share this excellent idea I've just had that will resolve a problem we're experiencing in my restaurant business. The solution came to me after reading this thread and I'd like to say a big thank you to BetFred and other online casinos for the inspiration!

We have this promotion to gain new customers, with big banners outside, ads in the newspapers etc. "SAUSAGES - CHEAP!" The problem is we don't make any money on these cheap sausages. We were hoping that people would come in, think "yuk, sausages" and order smoked salmon & chips (thats' "fries" for the transatlantically challenged out there). But the restaurant is full of German tourists shovelling down platefuls of wurst!

Now I've just ordered a new sign that will solve our problem "Germans not welcome".

    I thank you!

True Chuchu! But they're still not welcome. I'm sure Canadians do not feel welcome at BetFred.

    Hi guys,

Thank you for your comments and feedback.

I can certainly understand your frustrations but believe me the decision was not taken lightly. However, the ban only stands for the base level VIP (i.e. Bronze) and as such players of a higher VIP level will still be allowed to receive bonuses, so if any player feels they have been treated harshly by the ban, PM me with your Betfred username and I will assess your VIP level and adjust accordingly.

I will be out of the office from tomorrow due to the holiday period, but I will try to deal with all queries in a timely manner.

    Thanks again,

    Ian.

Thanks for the explanation Ian though there would have been a lot less misunderstanding if you had stated in the email that Silver? Level players are unaffected by the changes.

Nevertheless, I am still of the opinion that you should allow new Canadian players an option to rise to the Silver level and start getting benefits through regular play. If I were a canadian and wanted to patronise a new Playtech casino, I certainly wouldnt choose Betfred as it seems to be Anti-Canadian.
