    poker

    Hi Lauriejim!

I myself signed up years ago at Pokertime. That's where I have the most fun, and I have been paid when I won, CM does have a small accreditted poker section .. as well as threads surrounding poker. I linked at the bottom of my post

They have all types of poker, texas holdem, 7 card stud, 5 card draw etc. AND they have a casino section with slots, video poker, blackjack etc.
You can learn with points which they resupply every day (you are given 2000 points a day) You can play with as many as 10 players at a table depending on the game, or one on one.
If depositting they have tables as low as 3-6cents for 5 card draw.
Freeroll tourneys are not always free though. (they used to have free tourneys all day, now they only have one or two that are actually free, the others You need to accumulate raked hands (which takes a little bit of money) I always had a hard time figuring out the "raked hand" thing, but I always seemed to meet the amount of hands needed to enter thier freerolls. They also have tourneys for cash for as low as a buck.

I don't per se' promote them, but I am a satisfied customer there.

CM's listing http://www.casinomeister.com/poker/index.php not many US sites though.
    or the forum here http://www.casinomeister.com/forums/...rs-poker-room/

    good luck!

Stay away from UB and Absolute, just in case you haven't been following up on those fiascoes. I would suggest that you start with the play money tables to get a feel for it, but keep in mind some people are absolutely stupid at the play money tables. I would also suggest that you start at a smaller site. I suggest you google, how to play poker or something along those lines and read up on it, you can find very basic info or more advanced. I don't know how much you are familiar with but there is tons of info out there.

My favorite games are....7 card stud and texas hold em' and I prefer the smaller tables. I do sometimes play at Doyle's room and sometimes at Carbon Poker.
I will tell you this...it's a change from slots, not as fast paced and it can be really aggravating to wait on other players dragging their feet, but most places have a time limit, some better than others. I played poker online before I got into slot machines and come to think of it, maybe I need to play more poker. lol

    Laurie,

There are a number of ways to learn. Firstly, you have to know what your goals are, to eventually make money of it or just to enjoy the game. I will be more than happy to teach you the basics and money-winning tricks to it playing micro-stakes(penny poker where a tenner will last you a day). It's a fun game, no matter which poker site and/or variation of the game you choose.

    Regards,

    John

I have played at bugsyclub poker for several years. They are honest and not loaded with sharks waiting on fish.

I can assure you if you win you will be paid, and they have an online poker school to play until your ready to participate in real money games.

    I play there under catrinam.

I also play at pokerstars which is probably the largest trusted site going now but if you are just starting I recommend bugsyclub.

    Hey sista! lol

Seriously? I would learn off line first. Ive been playing poker my whole life (offline) and a few months ago i was going to try it online and actually did get the courage. For some reason, I like to see the people in person when I play. I dont think it has the same advantage online. Its just my opinion. THere are a few reasons

    1. No tells...... a tell is something another player often does when he has a good or bad hand like play with his chips, scratches his chin etc..thats why some wear sun glasses. You cant see that online and to me....thats huge

    2. You dont know for sure if someone has a network set up to dump. Remember i showed a request for poker players on craigs list? They were looking for dummies to play online and let one person win and cashout. Some swear that they monitor that but I dont believe that for one minute

    3. Proving your playiing for real and not just to dump for a cashout. SOmetimes they ask you to prove your not dumping and truly playing.

BTW....7 card stud is my game if your interested. been playing it for years in the Trop poker room

All Im saying is its a slippery slope for a new poker player and please be careful out there!

Casino poker is, to put it bluntly crap.

If you want to learn the real game, you are no where near ready to play for cash so you can play anywhere without getting stung.

Large sites like fulltilt/pokerstars (Accepts US players)

Both run regular no deposit freerolls. Big fields and difficult to cash.

Mabe a bit confusing at first as the sites have fairly busy lobbies.

Smaller sites such as bugsysclub/pitbullpoker/carbon poker/doylesroom (Accepts US players)

    probably better for a newbie.

For depositing, pokerstars starts at $10

For a non deposit, pitbull gives away $10 to new players via certain affiliate links

First off, video poker is nothing like table poker. If you want to learn VP, check out the Wizard of Odds sight as a beginning. Easiest VP is at MG casinos where the software auto holds the correct cards (except in the All Aces game). If you want to try VP at the land based casinos (or online where they don't auto hold cards), you must learn strategies for each of the different games to know what to hold and when.

To get a feel for table poker, watch the WPT and WSOP shows on TV. Bets, raises, types of games (there's a jillion different poker games) you need to become familiar with before playing. Sign up and play for 'fun' until you get a feel for the game. If you're serious about playing poker for money, then you need to read, read, read, till your eyes bleed. Pick up a few books by the pros. Also remember, playing poker online bears only a vague resemblance to playing 'real' poker in a casino should you decide to try your luck at the tables in Tunica (stay away from the HS, they'll eat you alive)..

    Good luck.
Alice: But I don't want to go among mad people.
The Cat: Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.

You got that right!! Boy, I just "watch" HS tables at the trop and still get nervous. Those guys know what theyre doing! Some of them are there so long they get massages right at the tables Infact I have met a few pros that use the Trop lowstakes just for practice. This one guy offered me a stack of $25 chips if I could guess his age lol. I was wrong. They are true gamblers

Forgot: lol, those 70-80yr old gray haired ladies? They are cut throat! dont be fooled, theyve been playing for years
