Linux is good in some ways, especially security. On the other hand, if you have to download the software for the casino, it's almost guaranteed not to work. Some of the no-download versions will work, but that really limits your games at some of the casinos. I think if you're a serious player, it's not practical to move to linux. Linux is more for programmers (and hackers).

No, Linux is for people who want to use a PC without paying Bill Gates for the privilege. There are governments, companies, universities who manage to live without Windows. In Germany, some 40% of university students now use Linux. Installing a free Linux system may require some skills, but I managed just fine about 4 years ago, but a commercial Linux OS should work straight out of the box.

Btw, BMW cars also run on Linux.

linux is fun. makes me feel like a rebelling hacker/programmer. but really, it's amusing to go into a terminal and bash out commands to do stuff, like the old days (young folks are so spoiled these days...command line, wha? analogue clock, wha?). to not be a slave to windows is quite liberating, as is the freedom to manipulate your system to do exactly what you want it to without a lot of crap you don't require.

that's what i look at linux ideally as. in practice, however, i'm encountering some obstacles and feeling apprehension. i'm scared i'm going to break my system bashing around in it, and i find some tasks that were "two-clicks" easy in windows to be cumbersome and frustrating in xandros linux. overall i feel positively, and i think if i spend a couple months playing in linux that i will feel like a cool pro with a pimped out system.

do you guys know the eeepc? it's mad cool-looking because of its compact size. it's like the smart car of laptops. literally two of them side by side would fit in the same footprint as my 15.4" lappy. so far i have mostly cosmetic mods on it; penguin-face "start" button and igloo icon for "my computer" are my favourites. because linux is teh pwnxx0rrz and i am 1337 hackxn1zzl3 !

i'm going to start a new thread i think... or a blog or a group...

Installing Windows XP or Vista (and getting it to run right) ain't so easy if your running custom hardware or apps. Windows tries it's best to make using non-windows products as difficult as possible.

I detest and despise everything about Windows... A bunch of arrogant butt faces that sell crappy software.
