This thread wouldnt be complete without recalling the fruitie weekend of my life. I was arrested at Knutsford services by the traffic cops, (after emptying all the fruits on every service station along the M6) At Knutsford Services I must have drew the attention of a security guard who called the plod. I had over £4000 on me all in £1 coins. I was grilled, strip searched and my car was literally taken to pieces.

After two YES TWO days they released me without charge and let me get a meal in their canteen. I then proceed to empty their own club machine in their canteen. I will never forget that weekend!!! Priceless!!

Knutsford plods are very suscpicious by nature. I was mugged there in 1996, and relieved of a pot of £1 coins. The plod, upon hearing my take, seemed to want me to tell about my ENTIRE TRIP, even though this was irrelevant up to the point where I first came into contact with the con merchant who set me up at the previous services. They were more interested in finding a drugs related explanation as opposed to the glaringly obvious one that the muggers saw my prowess at the machines and thought up a way to get some of it for themselves.

No doubt they spent 2 days scouring the CCTV footage looking for something to charge you with, as they could not believe that £4000 could be won from simply playing the game.

People with that amout of coinage are usually "rodding" the machines. (A method for forcing the hopper to give out it's contents by mechanical manipulation), defrauding the changers (recent scam), or simply breaking the locks on the cash box.
36 hours is the most you could have been held without charge, they must have been gutted to have had to release you

It is unusual to get caught at a Motorway Services though, unless you are doing something that looks rather shady. You didn't have a big bag with you all the time by any chance, this is a dead giveaway to security as the Motorway "drifters" travel like this, and they often rob the machines when they get the chance (they don't usually have their own transport - another dead giveaway!)

Didnt have a swag bag on me LOL. I think I just looked dodgy and coupled with almost constant sound of pound coins being spat out of the machine, the security guy decided I was up to no good.

The police interview was a real scary interogation though, they could just not accept it was possible to win that amount. They were convinced they were going to find a device of some sort and put me away for life lol.

I ended up being barred from all Granada and Welcome break amusement areas which I complied with for about 20 miles

You could probably have gone back after a few weeks though, staff turnover is pretty high.

What i want to know is why you didnt sue for wrongful arrest and definatly wrongful imprisonment. i would have had my lawyers onto them straight away. compensation was well warranted for being held for 30 odd hours, loss of earnings just being one reason!!
