hi to all you new guys and gals and nice to see all you oldies are still around

as some of you may know I opted out awhile back as was having many ups and downs in my life and also problems controlling my gambling.

just to let you know things are getting better and whilst I will never give up gambling for good it's now under control.

nice to be back and hope to share some posts with all you guys and gals.

Its very nice to hear that you are enjoying yourself an dfeel good.
On the other side: I have difficulties to believe taht yoi have gambling under control now.
I think, ist simply too early to say that. But if you mean: You are on the way to control it, that would be great!

I have a problem too, but it isn't gambling. Actually I can drink without a problem as long as it is nothing stronger than mead (20% etoh, 40 froof, half of vodka) But when I drink the hard stuff I turn into a flaming asshole.
I know this is anomalous to what every one thinks they may know about addiction, but my point is, for the problem gambler, it is a very different story.
One throw is too many and a million lost is never enough to chase.

I noticed LIR had opted back in a week or so ago and I wondered how long it would be before the itch got him.

If I were to go into a bar and say, 'I have a problem with alcohol, but I love the folks here... can I just play pool and smoke and shoot the breeze, the barman would let me. It would be the rare place that I could just order beer or mead, and sure as shootin, if I ordered a vodka I would be out on my ear sooner or later.

Bryan is to be commended for letting LIR come back in on a trial basis. He could have reached out to the community, made friends and possibly gotten some help. But he was back at the spigot on the road to ruin. And Bryan is to be commended again for cutting the cord. I'm sure it has nothing to do with liability (as a barman could be held liable for a drunk driver) but more a policy of responsibility and service to the community at large.

Many forums have a real us vs. them mentality just under the surface in the relationship of posters and moderators. And cliques of teacher's pets and rogues, (not to mention trolls) but in the seven or eight months I've been a member I haven't seen that dynamic here.

I've found a real sense of community here and am honored to be tolerated (for now), it's just too bad LIR wasn't able to simply participate in that... but you don't go to a whorehouse for a kiss and if you sit in the barber chair long enough, you're going to get a haircut. And if you subscribe to cliches with out paradoxes you'll soon find yourself brainwashed.

It would be very easy for me to make some sanctimonious comments here, but as most here are aware I have the reputation of a VERY controlled gambler.
Even I go crazy sometimes (within limitations) but overall it is the absolute fear of losing that brings me back. I had on & off problems caused by fruit machine addiction for more than 2 decades if I'm honest. When I discovered the world of online casinos and how to not lose, it slowly changed my life. My gambling has been self-funding for over 6-years which is such a great feeling; I never want to go back to my world of debt & the depression it brings. I hope my comments don't sound flippant, I honestly do understand the demons of addiction as I have been there myself.

I'm a lot like you KK. But/and being a 'thrill seeker' I have used almost every imaginable self indulgence to fire my synapsi. Do you have a 'failsafe' (I'm guessing it is a dollar value or throughput benchmark if so) that keeps you from returning to that desperate state you experienced with fruities?
Do you have an escape route for yourself if bonuses disappear and you are left with the house edge?
I don't have many fears for you as you don't seem to be addicted to the big payouts (lowroller), You're an intelligent guy (probably have the ability to create a new sensation to replace gambling if you needed to) and you definitely pay attention to every coin you play.

But what if, bonuses not withstanding, you went on a losing streak (all members please knock on wood even if you aren't superstitious). Are you developing other positive and productive life interests that you could place yourself in medias rez? Even if it's building ships in bottles? i hope so.

You could easily take the talents you've developed with this hobby and apply them elsewhere if and when your interests change. I also don't doubt that you have the self discipline to play without bonuses if need be, and simply stop when you reach your benchmark. (a short career, depends on how lucky you were at the time )
Some people are not so fortunate and should not gamble.
