But what happens when your Tweet is more that 140 characters long

I tweeted one earlier today, and the URL alone was about 120 characters, which didn't leave a lot for the subject info!

Is there some secret way to condense Tweets that I don't know about?
I've seen some with very short URLs, e.g. http://bit.ly/hC3f2x (by Robwin) - how does one do that?

    Hide your affiliate URLs

Are you posting something that you don't want people to know what the URL is because it might give away that it's an affiliate link? Then you can enter a URL into TinyURL, and your affiliate link will be hidden from the visitor, only the tinyurl.com address and the ending address will be visible to your visitors.
    A great spammers toolkit

Shortened links also expose users to hidden dangers.

Looks like most spammers have started using such services to avoid getting busted, and their affy code forwarded to the casino reps here.

Anyone got an "expander" to extract the affy code from a spammed "tinyURL" so we can carry on grassing up the spammy affiliates

Um...tinyURL has been around for donkey years. And once you click through it you'll see the original URL. No biggie and nothing to bust a vein over

Go to http://bit.ly/ and simply paste the url in the box at the top, it will shorten it for you and give you a bit.ly link like the one above.

You can also sign up there for free and it will save all your shortened links and track any clicks they get.

BTW, don't use tinyURL to shorten affy links, it's known to cause issues with tracking.
