This is confirmed - there have been announcements from Optimal (the parent group) and press material on Reuters, the BBC and in various UK publications today.

e-payment processor expects heavy losses and will be cutting costs

Fireone Group, which processes online credit card payments for the online gaming industry, is to stop US transactions it announced through parent Optimal.

The move is a direct result of new US legislation designed to hamper online gambling financial transactions and due for signature by the US president this week.

FireOne Group stated that it will continue to offer its multi-currency credit and debit card and FirePay electronic wallet processing to the online gambling industry originating from non-U.S. consumers and not prohibited by the Act, and will consider card-not-present payment processing opportunities outside of online gambling.

On the positive side you can add online poker site Bet Hold 'Em (Betcorp) which says it is hanging in for US players.

I don't see what Firepay has to do with Neteller, other than they are in the same business.

But I did notice that Neteller shares rose a little over 2% after Firepay said it would drop out of the US and Firepay's shares droped by over 25% as I write this.


If your worried about getting your money, you can always go back to the 'old' days and have the Casino send you a check, it maybe a lot slower but it still works.

Firepay have only accepted customers with US bank accounts since quite some time ago. Did this change in the last couple of years? They never contacted me about it. I used to use Firepay and put through hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of transactions through them but they later decided to only accept people in the US or with US bank accounts.

So I'm confused by their statement which included Firepay (not just the credit card processing) being used for non-US customers as I doubt many non-US residents will be able to have bank accounts in the US.

It looks like they do accept players from the UK again now. Not sure about other countries but doesn't look likely. It's strange they never contacted previous customers (at least not me). Although now it seems like the account has to be in GB pounds whereas before it was only in US$.

I have a Canadian dollar Firepay account. I had a US dollar one for years, and about 8 months ago, they notified me that they were deactivating my old acct (US $), and I was to open a new account in Cdn $. And yes, they accept Canadian bank accounts as well.
