    Playtec Casinos??

    Hi:
I am new here so I am curious why no casino that utilizes Playtec software is recommended. (I have practiced at several Casinos that use their software and I like it). Thanks...

    Hi navyseal80,

    And welcome to the forum.

My problems with Playtech were pretty much out in the open this past Spring/early Summer. For several months, they dodged a few simple and legitimate questions that I had, and most of all this has been archived in the newsletter section.

The one that caused a bit of a problem was this one which they claimed was defamatory:

Their lawyer contacted me two days after this newsletter was published demanding an apology and retraction - which I would not do. But what I did do was agree to their sentiments that they were under no obligation to answer any of my questions (which was troublesome since they are on record stating that they would answer me).

Since then, I have not been endorsing Playtech powered casinos mainly because I feel (and many others support me in this thought) that what Playtech did was wrong. You don't try to shut someone up by throwing lawyers at them, and this was exactly what they did. I am a player advocate and a journalist, and this is my job - to ask questions. In the past, I have said much worse things about RTG and their casinos, and I have a very good relationship with RTG; we talk things out. Why Playtech decided to take the legal route is beyond me, but apparently Playtech has a differing philosophy than RTG, Microgaming, Boss Media, or most anyone else in this business. They felt that the public had no business in knowing why they allowed casinos to operate without licenses, they also felt (apparently so) that they did not need to ensure that their licensee's adhere to common and accepted business practices. This is unacceptable in my opinion -- take that for what it's worth.

This situation has been frustrating since I know there are a number of operators out there who meet the criteria for my support. But there is light at the end of the tunnel since a representative at Playtech has offered her services to iron our differences out. I am hopeful that we will be able to see more eye-to-eye on things.

Playtech are notoriously reluctant to communicate or get involved in player disputes, and I think that is a serious mistake on their part in an industry that is at last beginning, just beginning to recognise the genuine importance of customer care in a competitive business.

It would be a good start if they were more prepared to exchange views, and perhaps even introduce a facility that would enable players to escalate disputes they were unable to resolve at casino level, as RTG have done with Montana for example.

At the moment one gets the feeling that they pull up the drawbridge the moment a complaint surfaces, and they can and should certainly do better.

    Playtech

Just my initial two cents but I have the feeling that if there existed a hypothetical spectrum defining casino operators and their professionalism, Playtech operators would cover the widest area in comparison to all other.

When they are good quality they tend to be among the most reputable bar none.
On the other hand... there have been operators that can only be described as pirates.

Ultimately, you can't arrive easily at their door with preconceptions.
