At four Holy Bull won the Olympic Handicap easily but was injured and pulled up during the Donn Handicap. In retirement, he stands at stud at Darley at Jonabell Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Holy Bull was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2001.
I got that from Holy Bull's website....so I stand corrected Paul. Funny how the mind plays tricks, I can see the race in my mind, and I even remember Mike Smith in tears after the race. Why would I think they put him down? Anyway, thank you for clarifying that for me.

A trip to Del Mar sounds wonderful, lol. But I hate flying.

    Ah, the good old days.
    *Heavy sigh*...I hear ya Paul.

We should start a thread for the Kentucky Derby, and if you happen to see a race or know of a horse you think may be there, post away. Could be interesting come the first Saturday in May to see how good (or bad) we were, lol. That is my favourite time (Kentucky Derby, Mother's Day and my birthday all within days of each other).

    Me too.

A few times I can remember just walking out of the track when a bad accident occured, even if I had just gotten there.

I remember a bad one at Hollywood Park, I think the name was Hello or Happy-something. The leg just SNAPPED in the stretch. It was HORRIBLE! The horse, with its instinct to win, still tried valiantly to reach the finish line with its front leg just demolished. We left, and the ride home was very very quiet.

I too have seen that and it is sickening. Their instinct to run and to win just overrides all else I guess.....but to watch them flailing around with their leg dangling, it's a nightmare. Unfortunately, it's part of the game I guess. It's what they are bred for. That doesn't make it any easier to watch though. On this topic, do you remember which filly/mare it was who this happened to in the last few years? I can't remember if it was in a Breeder's Cup race (?) but she was a top contender? Not Serena's Song, but around the same time maybe? Gonna have to go look it up I think, I was in tears that day myself. The old grey matter just ain't what it used to be, lol.

Amazing the things you can think and talk about when you don't gamble for one weekend.

I also stand corrected on the Holy Bull/Cigar connection, they did race in the Donn Handicap...but it was Cigar's fourth victory of his 16 race streak, not his first. Geez, don't listen to anything I say...I don't know what the hell I am talking about. It WAS ten years ago.

    Hey Pinababy,

I used to have youbet.com on my computer. I didn't wager through it. But just used it to watch the races. Have you tried that? You might want to check it out if you haven't before. With high speed connection (bitchin high speed connection as Casinomeister would call it) the video comes out pretty good. It's almost like watching the horses on a little television screen. It's pretty cool. I think it cost about $16 a month or so. You get the same feed that they would get at a satellite facility.

I'm not betting the horses now, mainly because, like I said, I just spend all my free time getting my fix of gambling with online poker. But if I were to bet the ponies, I'd do it at Pinnacle because they have (I think they still have it) a 7% rebate on your horse action. I don't think there's a better deal out there.

Just thought I'd tell you that. Maybe you knew it already. Best of luck to you.

Thanks Paul!! I have a horse wagering account with the Racing Network here in Canada, I can wager online or over the phone. But I haven't even bet on a horse race in over two years. I used to subscribe to the Racing Network also, but like online gaming, it keeps you in the house. I'm really thinking I need to start getting out more. But thanks for the info, I'll keep it in mind if I want access to races and/or replays.

I too have youbet.com on my computer and love it. Went back the other day just to play around after these posts, and put in a bet with some of my fun money from slot winnings (I use trackmaster plus for handicapping) and caught a 50 to 1 shot on win-place and show wager for $4 across the board.. The turkey WON! got me some nice change...withdrew over $700 at the end of the night.

    Now..off to the slots again!
