Exclamation More security required to set up accounts

Many of us think how inconvenient it is to supply documentation to verify who we are. I now realise how important this process is. It is a process that can prevent fraudsters from stealing our money.

However, I feel the casinos should go one step further and request proof of identity before deposits can be made, not just when withdrawals are made.

A couple of weeks ago my credit card was used at BETFAIR - $3500 was taken from my account used at this site. I contacted Betfair and someone had set up an account using my name and credit card details. My home and email address were wrong.

I have to be honest I thought the home address would have to match the owner of the credit card for charges to be carried out.

It seems the casino's concern is for THEMSELVES, and not US when their policy is to verify accounts ONLY when THEY are expected to pay out.

I am surprised this fraud worked, since whilst the thief would probably have been caught when they tried to withdraw, this did NOT stop the theft of the $3500 from the credit card account. Casinos probably leave it to the bank to check addresses, and if the bank doesn't, the charge goes through.

Betfair is not just a casino either, and other products offer the opportunity to move funds other than by withdrawal, a process that may NOT trigger any security requirements unless the fraudster was too "blatant" about what he was doing.

    I agree

I totally agree with you on this one. I think that casinos should do a verification
before the first deposit to cover their clients. Security should go both ways.

Bet365 (Playtech) does something I consider reasonable. They accept your first deposit, but you must wait for snail mail and enter verification to continue to deposit. Also you must enter your password every time you deposit or withdraw, not just to play the casino.

i think total verification should be implemented before you can spin a slot ,get a hand of cards dealt [for real money]

this business of waiting til you want a cash out , thieves can go on a loosing streak as well as honest peeps

so why do they KEEP RIGHT ON accepting money from peeps that there suspicious of and the must be because no cash out till you prove your not

DO IT UP FRONT AND GET IT OVER WITH

I agree; I think the verifying should come first and in the long run it's convenient and secure for both the player and the casino

Then the problem becomes opening a new account at a casino and waiting at least 24 hours to have your identity verified before you can play. When people open new accounts at casinos they want to play now. Not later.

I think the casinos should be more diligent about credit cards though. I would think if a credit card is used to fund two different accounts a red flag should definitely go up. And I think you should have to be logged into the casino before making a deposit. At the same time I think the players should be vigilant about who's getting access to our credit cards and our passwords. It's everyone responsibility to fight fraud. People are always going to be looking for new ways to get into our bank accounts and credit cards but at the very least we should be locking the doors behind us and closing the curtains.

It might be a small price to pay for you but most people don't want to wait till tomorrow to play on a new account.
