My daughter had a similar problem with an account being hijacked...nothing showing in her sent messages, and she only became aware of it because the ISP contacted her about violations of their anti-spam policy. She ditched the address and made a new one.
Our ISP forces a primary address on you of your first initial, last name and a single digit, just the kind of thing we are supposed to avoid.
