    Spam from Dominique

I just want everyone to know, if you get spam from me advertising casinobestroyal.net and possibly other crap casinos - I am NOT sending these.

Someone is spoofing my email address to send these.

Not sure how to put a stop to it yet but I am looking into it.

It seems there are a bunch of weird unknown casinos sending out junk mails lately, please beware, these are taking advantage of the prohibition and not to be trusted.

Good luck, I have this happen all the time.

    A couple of suggestions:
    Use a
    Blackhole

If your hosting on your own server be sure that your SMTP is configured correctly and your email software is all updated and patched to current standards.

    SMTP Basics

If your hosting on a commercial shared server... Good Luck.

Btw - I did get one of those spams... I did not think it was from you...

    Thanks, Lotso.

They are spoofing the address I use for player complaints and that address resides on a yahoo server. Customer support is practically non-existant.

I guess that's why it bothers me so much, it's an address people trust. The mailing list they use must be stolen from some casino, most recipients are seasoned players, albeit not those from my address book except for two. So that seems to be coincidental.

So far it has only been one mailing. Let's hope it stays that way.

Often the first mailing is just a test run. I have never personally seen these guys stop till they can't make anymore money with your address.

I know its a trusted address now, but if the spammers continue the address will get put on all the spam lists and then it becomes worthless because none of the big ISPs will accept it anymore, even the spammers will stop using it then. Also outfits like Yahoo, Hotmail and gmail will suspend your email account if they receive spam complaints, even if it is not your fault.

From experience, I would suggest that you change email the address to a new one one and put it on an up to date email server. It is not that hard to do. Just let everyone on your mailing list know (over and over again) that you are updating to a new address.

You might lose a few people, updating to a new email address, but you won't lose it all, and losing it all is a real possibility if you do nothing.

That is the most difficult thing to do.

For now I have told everyone to watch out for these mails and let me know if they get one.

So far still no additional mailings went out...

Actually, spam has been so bad lately, I'd find it refreshing to see an email with a familiar name on it.

Haven't seen any email from you Dom, but will give a shout if I do.
Alice: But I don't want to go among mad people.
The Cat: Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.

You could look into DomainKeys. It won't stop the spam, but you will have a convincing proof that the spam did not originate from you.

The only thing a Domain Key is gonna do is going to make yahoo take a close look before closing the account. I have had yahoo close an account after using a domain key anyway, because the spam had gotten so bad and I know of others that have had their accounts closed as well, through no fault of their own.

But by the time Yahoo will take a look every ISP in the world will have already banned the address anyway.

I hope for your sake that was the only mailing. When your address gets spoofed it really is a no win situation and all the choices suck.

Whoever figures out how to fix this spam problem is gonna be very very rich...

    Good Luck!

Not to detract from the thread, or the problem....but I thought you sold Games and Casino Dominique? Or do you still act as a consultant?
